Well he's made it on the first stage - 21 mins down on Despres.

Go Charley! :clap

I have no problem with Charlie Boorman, I have no problem with the fact that he has a fully sponsored ride in the Dakar, I have no problem with the fact that he has two riders working for him to ensure that he finishes as high or as far as possible. The only problem I have with the whole thing is...........

I WISH IT WAS ME!!!!!!!

I voted "no" in the poll, only because I honestly don't believe he will make it to the end, but I would love to be proved wrong!
Best of luck to him and his team, and Mick Extance, Patsy Quick, Clive Town, Nick Plumb and Darren Duesbury.
Mark

I'd wish Charley good luck all round, but I'm just too jealous that it's him doing the bloody ride!

All credit to him - he's now better-known than he ever was before and in my view he's a top ambassador for biking. Good luck to the man! :thumb

I have to vote NO :mmmm . But i wish him the best of luck and hope he completes it...

Mr Boorman is top placed BMW rider on today's stage in at 84th.
and 114th overall.

If you know the dakar, Then you will know that each team as what is called a water carrier

they all do it,so if your Team Boss tell's you to help another team member you do it..They are paying your wages,,same in any motor sport,, whether it's rigth or not is not for me to say :nenau

I'm positive minded and wishing Charlie good luck! I believe he can do it if not going beyond abilities, but keeping up sufficent and controlled speed to finish to Dakar - now that's an real achivement for anybody!

Strange how his co-landers bash him often (jelousy?), if he were Russian or Italian i'd say whole Russia or Italy stand aside him and support him :)

But anyway, this year's Dakar is a bit crap indeed with those 150kph limits, vice-versa starting orders etc. wierdo (car-driver's way of thinking about bikes) security measures that took off real heroes rides - the 2-cylinder machines HP2 and 950SE :(

I'm really missing these heroic boys that can really dig the sand dunes with sufficent low-rpm torque and horsepower...

At least Charlie & Ewan where entertaining and did not behave like spoiled brats.

Are you kidding, that's all Boaring Boorman did. He's so jealous of Mcgregor I'm suprised they're still mates.

He's a big ponse who needs to lose 2 stone and realise he's no where near fit enough to be a serious contender for this type of challenge!

If he does anywhere near good I'll eat my bike ;)

I'm sure most of the lads on here would have a go if they had the money, I know I would!

Eddie Murphy won the Purple Heart, not the black guy.
John Waine won the WAR in THE PARCIFFIC.
so on and so forth

its a film, all`s well that ends well.

You wait and see, Charlie will win Simon will carry him across the line, because hes been shot in the arm, by a ZULU warrier.

THE END

The Dakar is no small undertaking for any competitor, regardless of where they finish, hats off to them for having the balls to try. People die competing, think about that for a moment before passing judgment.

Good luck to all the competitors, whatever their skill, category or experience.

Give the guy a break ffs
If he lost another 2 stone he'd be transparent, saw him at the NEC show and he looked like a racing snake compared to LWR, people don't rate his chances-so that makes him more worthy of our support. GO CHARLIE :clap :bow
and Nick and Si and Patsy and..........................

Interesting

Most people knock him, but he has done a lot for biking...
Judging from long way round he wouldn't finish the dakar, but I don't think he whinged nearly as much as Mcgregor.
BWM have acheived better sales than they could have hoped for since LWR. Now he is much better known, and BM will be taking this seriously - the backing and support he will receive will be better than most...
Not sure yet if that will be enough to get him to the finish, but we shouldn't knock him for going along with it.
How many people who love biking would shy away from the opportunities he's had?!
My 2p's worth

Well....

He has been at CP 2 for over 2 hours now while Pavey, Hall ,Quick et al. are over 100 klicks ahead of him ... looks like a DNF for Charlie.
