Theres little chance of Boorman finishing given his level of experence, but that shouldnt detract from his willingness to have a go in one of the worlds toughest rallys good on him and if he does finish it will be testomany to si paveys off road training expertise,

He has been at CP 2 for over 2 hours now while Pavey, Hall ,Quick et al. are over 100 klicks ahead of him ... looks like a DNF for Charlie.

That tracking site is pants. He's now showing as only 15km behind Pavey.

Pavey, Hall and Quick 70K out. Boorman been stuck on 198K out for an age.

Malfunction? Or really not up to the job after all? :(

Yup I reckon it's pants as well, it's been showing he's behind all day, then suddenly he's back up again.

Seem's to be a malfunction IMO.

Why do people knock those that are game enough to have a go, those that do AFAI concerned are jealous as f**k, we should be backing him & all the other riders & driver's all the way.

Anyone that's done any serious off roading & I mean proper off roading, not a thrash round a field on a C90, will know what a serious undertaking it is to get even as far as today.

:bow

I'm not knocking, I want the guy to finish.

If he does - a big IF I know - and we get a decent series out of it - then maybe the knock-on effect will be better Dakar coverage in future.

Anything that raises the profile of bike sport is good in my book.

Do you think the TV series will do for the F650GS what LWR did for the 1150/1200GS?

Isn't the future of the 650GS a liottle uncertain anyway?

Just had a look at the tracker & CB is now 3K in front of of pavey & hall after being apparently stuck at the end of the special since mid afternoon.

So it looks like the tracking system is not very accurate.

Seem's like he's finished today on rocket power :clap

I just ran the replay thing on the website and it showed Charley and Pavey riding the whole thing together. I hope he does well. I'm looking forward to the DVD.

Glad to see that there is now some positive in this thread.

It doesn't matter that he has a small TV crew following him and some assistance at the bivouac, he still has to ride the ride, ride the same tracks the same liason and the same special.

Sure he might have tea and then sleep for the next 6 hours whilst others do his maintenance (unlikely but you get my point?) but he still has to get up at 03:00 if not earlier, prepare, get on the the bike and then ride for how ever many hours just like all the others.

So quit the tall poppy syndrome and support them all and if you want to be sad for any of them, be sad for the ones who have dropped out already, all the effort, time and energy to only get a little in to it.

Hay Ewe
(Go Andy Caldecott, nah, GO THEM ALL!!)

Will he finish?

I agree with some of the more positive notes on this thread.

These guys are riding over 600 kms per day, a great deal of that off-road, some of you here, may know what that means!
It doesn't matter if he finishes it or not, fact is, he is having a go, film crew or no film crew.
He's not sitting at home moaning....
Also, I think it's a shame we (Brits) don't get behind our Sports people a bit more, sure, we all got a hair cut like David Beckham's, but that was about it wasn't it.
Then we proceeded to slag him off, because he missed a few goals.

We always whine about facilites or lack of etc. etc. well when I look at the standings in the Dakar, it seems to me that a lot of countries with far "less" of everything that we take for granted everyday, are right up there with some of the best.

I hope he does finish, as I hope all our representatives finish, a lot of people have slagged off Nick Plumb on this board in the past, but I think he's doing the best to bring a win back to Britain, as is Patsy and the others.
I'm sure a bit more positive support would help them along!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D

Here Here!

I was begining to think that the UK GSers had all become French overnight!

If the Guy has the wit to wangle full support and give himself the best chance possible what's wrong with that?

To ride this ride takes BALLS full stop.

Doesn't take a lot of balls to sit behind a keyboard and type sh*te all day!

I don't really know what you mean by that but considering the facts I guess it must be some kind of compliment. A lot of French guys just do it! Always have! Just ordinary guys saving up and going for it. Look at the nationalities of the entrants!

yeah, what up with that, he said not the black guy ;)

As it says in the URL "AUDIE" Murphy - never pronounced as Eddie alway as in Audi or Audrey without the "R" ... one of the few people ever to act in his own Bio-pic about his heroics to get his gongs in DubyaDubyaDeuce ;)

Well guy's french or not Mr Boorman is out of the Dakar, I think he dislocated his fingers and or shoulder last night in a crash, he has however been given special dispensation to follow the rest of the rally to get more footage!!!

Well that solves that one then !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boorman Wins Dakar 2006!!!

Just like in LWR when they took the train and then the truck and clever editing and spin made it look like they rode the whole way.
Now go back to where the nice German KTM guy broke the news to them that they wouldn't be able to ride the Road of Bones and Charlie threw his toys out of the pram!!!
My prediction for the Dakar - KTM to win and come second, third, fourth......
BMW somewhere down the field behind the camera trucks and spin doctors.
But wait for October when they will successfully coast into Dakar aboard a pile of tosh generated by marketing and hype.
Good luck to Si Pavey and Nick Plumb, I'll bet they wish they were riding KTM factory bikes!!!
Pat.
