Will I never learn?

Yeah, it does... I blame the flourescents in the shed for it looking odd...

Did you get the Seat sorted..?

I got some cash back. I'll see how it goes, I'm getting used to the way it looks. I'll be happier with the bike once I get the ST tank sprayed and fitted.

Just stumbled across this old picture from a few years ago. I couldn't remember where I'd got the bottom end from for the project bike. It was Mick DB1's old engine that was another one of Tarkas in the dim and distant past.

Scrubbed up well didn't it? So next time you see a scruffy old airhead engine kicking about - with a quick scrub it could take you round the world :D

Any tips on getting the alloy that clean ??

Hmmm... I've given my bike quite a few "lite scrubs" & it still doesn't look like that. Slight understatement perhaps:D

With the exception of the block everything is vapour blasted. The block was ultrasonically cleaned before being worked over with B&Q metal cleaner that takes the top layer off, then wired brushed before being cleaned with solvol autosol.

The b&Q cleaner is unfortunately no longer available (http://reviews.diy.com/2191-en_gb/10287527/reviews.htm) but any phosphoric acid based cleaner will do.

Time to draw a line under this thread.

The bikes all legal and has done around 1500 miles. Goes really well and is suitably dirty now ;) Still needs a few minor bits doing but I'm really pleased with it.

Richie Moores Valves are a work of art in them selves. Big inlet valves and high comp pistons make for plenty of rapid progress when needed.

I'm very surprised how different it is to my 100PD it feels very light and agile, apart from the smaller tank and lack of bull bar and fairing it's essentially the same bike.

Just to prove it's out and about and not a garage queen.

This is going to be the last airhead I rebuild for a while. Brit bikes beckon so if you fancy a light quick GS and and have a Norton Commando or late T140 you'd like to swap then get in touch.

Looks great Rob :thumb2

Kev,

I set it up with 150 mains, 2.66 needle jet, 45 pilot jet and needle on 3rd notch from top and it seems to be spot on. I've tried other settings over the past couple of weeks with nothing runs as well. This is backed up with my air/fuel gadget.

2 things if I may, what is your air fuel gadget, and is there a thread about it as I could do with something to help set up my carbs. Secondly I have a T140 that I might consider swopping if the prices both side are agreeable. If I could post a picture on this site then I would but its proving difficult.......

headlight unit

Rob, did you say there is a John Deere headlight unit that would fit an 1986 R80G/S? I have bought one in from Austria and need a left hand dip unit. They don't seem to be available anymore at a reasonable price. If so, can you point me in the direction of a dealer? thanks, John

Air/fuel gadget is one of these. Really useful bit of kit but and it is a big but there's no substitute for a dyno for setting up the jetting at the top end. You need flat out runs which gets very dangerous if your trying to watch gauges and other traffic. You get over 30 dyno runs for the cost of the air/fuel gauge. I've always got the top end jetting right on a dyno and used the air/ful gauge for tweaking the rest.

T140 - Yep! we need to talk :thumb2
