Hi folks,
I have just solved a problem with Win 7 auto updates and wanted to pass on the solution in case it helps anyone.
My main desktop PC hadn't been used in a little while and when I started it up, it began auto-updating with lots of updates that had been released by MS since I last used the machine. This process effectively locked up the computer for ages, then it auto restarted, eventually it then stated it couldn't complete the update process and then reverted to a previous state. This meant the machine was unusable for almost an hour every time it booted up.
The solution was to disable automatic updates, then go to the update page in control panel and manually select each update and run it individually. The whole process took a few hours to complete with lots of rebooting, but my system is now up to date and runs/starts without problems.
Basically, allowing a heap of updates to try and run together was the root of the problem, manually updating one at a time did the trick.
Hope this helps anyone if they have a similar problem.
