Fit the Touratech screen extender - brilliant!

I am 6 ft tall and with this Touratech add-on can ride visor up on my GSA no problem. A well worth it investment.

screen extender

hi......that would be the best idea,,,,could you tell me what screen extender you have ....as i beleive there 2 types from touratech.......:)

just brought the nippy normans large and wide one. Stops the buffeting very good protection but it still aint no car. Im almost thinking now its the noise that gets me (i do have ear plugs). Big difference was 150miles no neck ache so head is getting less of a hit. Im only 5ft 9 though

I fitted a Tobinators kit from Nippy Normans to my 07 1200GS when I had it. Prior to fitting the buffeting in any screen position was bad. The Tobinators kit was a definite improvement although with so many adjustment combinations it takes a bit of mucking around to fine tune it.

Apparently the back pressure behind the standard screen is part of the problem.

All the bikes I have had with screens have been far from perfect -stand up in the clean air and it is apparent how much fluffy air comes off a screen.

I am going to remove the screen on my R100GSPD over summer and enjoy the peace and quiet. :) It seems crazy to spend big dollars on a quality, quiet helmet then have a poorly designed screen compromise it.

Hope this helps. :thumb2

Just to throw a spanner in the works, Ive used both the Touratech screen extender and the Tobinators on my GS1200, neither gave much help. Since changing from GS to GSA1200, the bigger screen and winglets on the GSA give much much more protection. But as someone else has said, it aint a car and some wind is inevitable.
I suggest a GSA screen and Winglets, get a test ride on a GSA and see if it cures your problem.
Good Luck

Try Laminar Lip

I'm 6'3" with an '08 GSA. Had exact same buffeting problem and cured it with a Laminar Lip. They are imported by Heroblobs and can either be stuck on the standard screen with velcro or if you're brave like me it can be drilled and screwed on. They work by by forcing a higher pressure blast of air between the lip and the OEM screen which forces the air stream upwards over your head. It also "settles" the air behind the screen to reduce buffeting. I can't say its better or worse than the Touratech except to say I can't ride my bike without it for any length of time.

your always going to get a bit of wind on a bike no mater what screan yoiu have .

if you don't like it get a car

Al :D

According to his original post he already has a GSA screen:)

I am 6 ft tall

I am 6 ft 2 in and have had GS and GSA. The GS has been all over Europe including long distances on German Autobahns at around 120 mph with the standard screen and never noticed a problem.

I later fitted a GSA screen, mainly for looks, and it is more peaceful and now have a GSA. Again it has been used for high speed, all day, Autobahn runs while I listen to my Ipod via an Autocom.

Any more wind and weather protection and I may as well take the car.

It's a motorbike and when it moves it gets windy - end of story.

Big issue for me was the buffeting. Difficult to ride long distances with the fatigue caused by your head being shaken around, not to mention the discomfort and impact on concentration.

If you stand up on the pegs with your helmet in clean air this is the amount of wind noise I reckon is normal, a well designed screen shouldn't exacerbate wind noise.

Weather protection is another story.

As with all aspects of riding different blokes will have different experiences and what is acceptable to some will be a problem for others. If it wasn't for this the accesory shops would go broke :D

bike riding doesn't have to be windy: my motorbike (not a GS) doesn't inflict any wind on me, not up to my maximum cruising speed which is 110mph nor do I remember the K1200S suffering wind effects at any speed either.. I'm sure there is wind - I wouldn't ride with my visor up - but really it is not noticeable.

I'm 6ft 4in.

I'm working w/ my brother to reduce wind effects on his GS, my favourite theory is that the big distance between a GS rider and the screen is a factor.

Just changed bike from an R1 to a Gs 1200 se. i am the same as you 6 ft tall and buffeting is bad.
I have found that lowering the screen to its lowest setting and tipping the top down towards me helps.
I have read plenty of similar complaints on this site and the main answers seem to be, buy the larger adventure screen, or an extender and play around with the settings to find best position for least buffetting. There is also a mention somewhere that fitting a tank bag reduces the buffeting, there are also the tourbarances or whatever they are called from tourtec that make the screen more adjustable by enabling it to pivot back and forwards. I am going to install the screen extender, however i have the added problem of requiring a tinted one. Whats annoying is this is an expensive bike and to have a design problem like this is supprising and disappointing.

Good Luck

I spent a small fortune trying to cure the Wind Blast / Buffeting I experienced with our GS. I had a particular bad experience as I do have a Neck Problem )Spondolosis) and after one Ride up the Windy A19 to Coopers the Bike had to go. We now have an R1200RT which needed a Ztechnik V Stream to achieve an acceptable level of comfort. Now it's great.
