Windows 10

Just tried the above, managed to download the latest Java before the laptop froze up again. I can move the cursor around the screen but can't click on anything. Obviously this isn't Minecraft related. Its either a laptop problem or a W10 problem?

How do I go about reverting back to W8?

Could be loads of things going on but in all honesty it's beyond the scope or forum posts to trouble shoot. I would keep going with the drivers though. Try the laptop manufacturers site and see if they have new drivers for win 10.

Another thing to check is ctrl alt del and run the task manager. Select more info and see if you can see what is going on processor and disk. From there you can also get to resource monitor and see what is going on. Could be the processor or the drive getting hammered with one of the old programs that doesn't like win 10. All I can say is this isn't typical of win 10. Something else is going on here.

Again, I have to agree.

W10 is better than 8.1, which wasn't as good as 7.

I'm sticking with 10 and will, for now, tolerate the few drivers still missing from some of my gaming kit (madcatz strike 7 is causing me grief, but it's so good I'm prepared to wait)

Have a look on one of the MANY minecraft forums.......do a Google search with W10, Minecraft and a few words on the symptoms (Freezing, CTD etc) and you'll find dozens of tips and ideas.

Rolling back to 8.1 is a major faff and you'll end up with a shit OS (IMO anyway, I hated it) when the problem is probably a driver or something simple.......there are dozens of options left to you still, like installing Minecraft with compatibility mode on for 8.1 etc......

Don't give up. :comfort

It won't even let me open Task Manager. I can do ctrl alt del but it won't let me select anything. I then have to press esc to get back to the desktop. Its freezing almost straight after turning the laptop on. I can open google and search, but can't click on any of the icons in the task bar. Any pop up windows won't close down when clicking the red X icon. If I click on the Windows icon it won't let me select anything. Its royally fucked.

The laptop is 6 weeks old, maybe I need to send it back to Amazon/LaptopOutletUK?

When booting, before the window logo press F7 and go into safe mode. This boots with the least amount of stuff running. If it runs OK in safe mode it isn't a hardware issue and more likely software or drivers. If it still runs like crap something is possibly dodgy with the hardware. It could be as simple as a bad hard drive. I have had a couple of them at work this year on new laptops

If I ever see that CNUT Billfuckinggates I'm gonna punch him right in hisfuckingthroat, then I'm gonna cuthisfuckingballs off and stuff them down hisfuckingthroat!!

Windowsfucking10, what a fuckingjoke!

Is the upgrade proving a little troublesome?

Well, after trying to "upgrade" to W10 many months ago and failing badly and having to roll back to W7
i decided to have another go today; i'm pleased to say that, (so far) it's all gone well and i'm now using
a *well behaved W10 laptop :thumb2

*hope it stays that way :D

I've tried upgrading thgree times. Onfortunately, after doing so I lose the aility to tether to my smartphone. I also can't access my wife's PC using the Homegroup network? Rolled back to 7 and no problems. I don't know if I'll bother again. Piece of junk.

It didn't

Come to boot it yesterday and it blue screened me with a message that the boot configuration data is missing or needs repair DOH!

So, for the moment, it's fooked. There is quite a lot about it on the net and there is a way of fixing it and i hope that works
when i get around to trying it. If it doesn't, i'll deck it and start again :blast Iv'e been doing this shit with PC's for years
(on an interested amateur basis) and nothing much has changed really as the BSD has been with the PC user for a long time.

As i got myself a cracking little windows 10 tablet the other day and i do have a desk top PC. to use so i'm not short of
something to play on coupled with the fact that stuff on the laptop is backed up on other drives, i'm in no rush to fix the it.
Thankfully :D

If you don't like windows 8/8.1 or even Windows 10 then classic shell is the thing to use it gives you back the Windows xp/Windows 7 front end (you choose its selectable) it's free and has no pop ups or advertising.

Gets five star reviews. I was so impressed I sent a donation http://www.classicshell.net

On the PC and my Lap Top ( both on Windows 7 pro ) ever since Windows 10 came out every time I turn them on I am offered a Windows 10 upgrade ....................... don't want it , now the f****rs are saying they will schedule my automatic upgrade on 29th April , every time I cancel the upgrade but they are insistent buggers and it keeps on coming back .

Any way of stopping the upgrade and the bloody annoying pop up messages

You will need to uninstall some windows updates to stop it bugging you and to switch it off completely. In all honestly it's a bit involved so a Google for specific instructions would be better than a bike forum.

YES! download 'gwx control panel' and that will sort it. I did it about three months ago and it works like a dream.

I have just bought a PC with a fresh win 10 Pro install

So far Win 10 is more stable and less memory intensive than 7 8 or vista

I like it

Plug in your laptop Set the Power control to "Never Sleep" when plugged in and start the update Its dead on

I'm not a huge windows fan and have had Ubuntu installs since 2008. Windows 10 is pretty good. I've even managed to get it installed on a ten year old compaq laptop and whilst a tad slow, it works a treat.

12 months on from my first disastrous 10 upgrade, I have had another go after stuff mysteriously stopped working on 7.

So far so good. A lot more intuitive than I recall & seems stable ... I like it! :beerjug:
