Hi,
For some reason, I’m having problems with opening some files. It seems to have happened after an update or could just be coincidental.
When opening a jpeg file, it won’t open instantly as before but asks me which program to use or to select one from my PC.
Also, I run WPS Office ( free version), and all the saved files I created with WPS wont open and Microsoft Office tries to open them and says I’m not registered or my free trial has expired.
When trying to open WPS nothing happens and it won’t open anyway at all.
Any suggestions?
I don’t wish to give Microsoft any money for their Office for the very few times I use it!

First issue about it asking which program you want to use should be a fairly easy fix as you can just configure your preferred default app

Second issue can most likely be fixed by installing one of the free 'office' programs such as Libre Office which should be able to open the Word files (and save in a format that Word can open)

It could be the update to Win 11 24H2 may have broke your file associations including those to WPS. I don't use that software but use Libra Office. Ahh beaten to it above. There's a page on the MS website on the things the update is known to bugger up

My laptop nagged me this morning, presumably after an update was installed. Nags about not subscribing to MS365 and not using Edge. It got told to fuck off but involved persistence and diligence with the half a dozen screens. As I did not accept anything, all file associations remained the same. I use LibreOffice since the 12 month MS365 sub that came with the laptop expired.

Thanks for the replies.
I reloaded WPS Office today and it seemed to work again. I will bear in mind about Libra so if I have any more issues with WPS, I will change.
I had the same nagging messages as Wessie from Microsoft. Bloody nuisance.
