Windows 7 extremely cheap

Depends on the processor on your computer. If it's a 64 bit one you'll probably see a 64 sticker on it somewhere.
If you're not sure then the 32bit vesrsion will work on the 64 machine, but you won't get the benefits.

Slight off topic. If you work for a large organization that uses Microsoft software you may be eligible for some really silly prices. As an employeee of Met Police I have recently and legally bought Office 2007 Enterprise with a two machine licence for £8.99. Yes that's right £8.99 - a saving of over £400.00.

For £7.99 you do only get a download though but for an extra £9.00 Microsoft send the disc as well. The same price for Office 2008 for Mac.

I've bought Office 2007 (Professional I think) and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit from them with no problems.

Not limited in any way as far as I can tell.

What's the difference between Fraud (claiming that you're a student for example, when you're patently not one)) to obtain a cheaper copy of a program, and downloading it for nothing from a trusted torrent site?

Morally and ethically I mean, not financially (in which case the answer is 'About £54')

I would say both are fraud. I feel ok about it mine because my partner is doing an Open University course so technically it's ok. Having kids at school I think makes it ok too.

I wouldn't install a cracked OS because I'd be scared what else the hackers had done to it, not because I'd feel guilty about not giving Microsoft some more money.

On downloading "free" software I take the view that I won't download music or software from torrents that I would buy. I feel that if I download say music that I wouldn't be prepared to buy a CD of I haven't hurt anyone ... as far as I'm concerned theft means depriving someone of something (morally if not legally).

I await the abuse

I guess the question is really aimed at those who can neither claim that they are students nor are there any students in their household.....in particular the ones who would claim that dowloading from a torrent site is just theft yet are quite happy to get a cheaper copy of the software through what is effectively fraud, yet apparently see no problem in that.

Clean boot installation of "upgrade" version possible: -

Did you know if you buy the "upgrade" version of windows 7, install it (without adding a code) then reinstall it again (adding the code) over the top you can have a clean book install and save £££'s.

Thats how I did mine and it works fine. The microsoft technical support guy told me about this loophole because I bought the upgrade and told him I had to replace the hard drive for some reason.

BTW, windows 7 is brilliant!

Did the same upgrading my daughters PC running XP to Vista using a upgrade disc, only possible doing a clean install if i remember correctly though.

A friend got a copy of Photoshop but this required a you to send a scan of yer student card to validate the licence after 30 days

Anyone know if there is a way around this(this "student" can't afford a scanner to do this)?
Also a copy can be put on the "students" laptop and the "students" home computer?

Does this "student" have a camera phone they can use? That should do the trick.

Software licence will tell you if you can install on multiple computers. IIRC Office you can.

... I just can't resist here .. try Linux .. I run Linux for years now.. these days Ubuntu flavour .. I is very nice and advanced these days..

It is free , including free updates, secure - no viruses.. ect. If you used Mac before you will find it really similar.

I started by using SuSE, tried Redhat, Yellowdog, Mandriva, but Ubuntu is pretty damn good, even comes with a free and complete M$ Office compatible office suite, Open Office, which will also run on Window$

I own a legal version of Vista Ultimate, only last week I started getting messages along the lines of.. "Your OME copy of vista is running out, please buy another"

Made me back up my data dam sharpish with 7-day warning!

Thankfully nothing happened, no rage over the phone at some unfortunate Indian call center worker. Dragged my amazon reciept out to control my stress.

Just a point to note if anyone buys a student edition of office 2007 - I don't think it contains outlook.

The student edition of office 2003 contained outlook but wouldn't link to exchange.
