Woudn't really worry about it..
Vista wasn't well recieved and most preferred to stick with XP (so MS were forced to still offer XP even now)..
I didn't like Vista but there is nothing wrong with it and the new software proably won't offer you any noticable benefits unless you're doing a lot of indepth stuff on the puter... And how many really do

i believe you can download a public beta of windows 7 tomorrow.

they did this before when they released Windows Millenium, it was a pup and caused nothing but bother. so they had to continue with the old Windows and rush a new version through as well.

"The minimum requirements for running Windows 7 are a PC with a 1 Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16 GB of disk space, 128MB of video memory and support for DX9 graphics."

So they've definitely reduced the voracious appetite for power and memory then

funny enough, i've just ordered a new laptop... preinstalled with Vista

it will be scrubbed and rebuilt with XP when it arrives...

it's a beta (trial), though reportedly pretty good. it's been available via bittorrent for a short while.

i guess after a while, MS deactivate it and you have to buy a retail version or go back to vista.

in short, don't bother. wait until the retail version has been out a while or upgrade now to XP.

I can all do all that as well Bin' but I could also do all that with XP and do it easier and simpler, I will grudgingly say that the graphics are are a shade better with vista but everything else is a pain in the @rse,

Try Vista for a couple of weeks.

I use computers 16/7 - I played with early Vista and then avoided it for ages and ages.

Finally upgraded a couple of home boxes a while back to Vista SP1 - it takes a while to get used to it, but I wouldn't choose to go back to XP, for home use.

microsoft were trying to patent a pay as you use software system i read a while back

I'm surprised M$ didn't call this one 'Windows Credit Crunch' version, doubt it will save many jobs though! Do you think that they could stick to version numbering for a change rather than crap like XP, Vista, 2000 etc etc, confuses the hell out of people alongside the myriad licensing versions for home and business.

As long as W7 removes the Vista slow explorer and utterly useless search problems and improves performance generally (especially now people will be holding onto their puters for longer (older hardware)) then I'd be happy otherwise XP will live long.

Windows 2000 was aimed at the corporate world as a NT4 replacement.
