i just got a new desktop pc with windows vista to replace my old well knackered windows xp pc. but the thing is, when i plug it in and connect it all up. even without switching it on, my phone line is dead :blast so do i need to get some new phone line filters particularly designed for windows vista ? btw, the new pc connects to the net no problem, so i think it has to be the filters . thank,s
anyone else had this problem with vista ? ...

If the filters worked with the old PC then there shouldn't be a problem. The software running has no effect or interaction with the filters. They're there to seperate the phone signal from that used by the ADSL. If the filters broke then you need a new one but it's nothing to do with the fact you're running a new operating system.

this is just weird, i reconnected my old windows xp pc and the phone line works fine :nenau so the filters are doing their job , i also tried my laptop which runs xp proffessional and it too works fine, when connected to the net, i can make and recieve phone calls . but when i connect up my new windows vista pc, the phone line sounds constantly engaged . so it seems that the problem does indeed lie with the new vista equipped pc . as i said weird :nenau as per usual, i have probably f**ked something up during the installation of the new pc .

plug the new laptop into someone elses line.

sounds like the laptop has a problem.

hi,
I had the same problem with mine, and it turned out that the internal modem of the laptop was overriding the broadband adsl modem. once I had disabled the internal one it worked fine.
hope that helps

With the filter in place the modem shouldn't be interfering with the voice part of the telephone signal at all so I agree, very odd.
