One of my windshield adjuster bolts vibrated off while out riding.
It's an mra vario ..... I removed the top part completely and tucked it away in my pannier.
Immediately I noticed the air was much more laminar around my nappa, and less buffeting on my chest!!
Seems to me to be the opposite to what I would expect. I'm now contemplating a smaller screen in the future.
Any thoughts on screens?

They're a personal thing. We're all slightly different in build*, so we're all going to have different preferences.

I've always preferred "clean" air around the helmet so I ride my Rocksters with only a tiny screen on the "eyebrow", but then, I've had 30+ years of riding bikes with minimal or no screen, so my neck is (or at least was...) up to it.

I've always disliked the noisy air that comes off a tall screen (GS/RT/RS etc)

* Not just in height, but actual body length, neck strength, head size, shoulder width etc etc, it all makes a difference to the overall experience.

I has a k1200gt and that was so good......pleased you experience the same. Im 6ft2in so I think I get a lot of buffeting......I'll be getting a smaller screen.

What position did you have the upper part of the MRA screen in? I have mine in the lowest position possible as I find buffeting is worse the higher it is. I also find airflow smoother with the screen tipped back towards me on the mounts. As @Riceburner said screens are a very personal thing with so many variables but I've found with multiple bikes that generally speaking the less screen you have the smoother the airflow is.......but of course the downside is you also have less protection against high speed wind-blast, cold and weather. Finding the perfect compromise can be a life's work.

You can’t beat Tobinators …. Are they still available ?

I tried all positions, but I found without the top bit, it was a lot smoother.
I'll do some experimenting when I'm next out.

Air flow and turbulance is a mysterious thing. Look at the lengths F1 designers go to get it at most efficient.

For instance in a MK2 Mazda MX5 if you are at speed with top down the best position for windows to reduce turbulance on the driver is driver window down, passenger window up.

And then there's the winglets on a Hexhead, do they make a jot of difference? In my experience not.

So I woud say keep on experimenting. Just my 2c :) (y)

Yeah - it's a complex subject.

on my Rocksters, if I have the panniers fitted, I get a slight wobble induced at 120+ mph. With a top-box fitted, that wobble doesn't occur.

My R1100R came with an MRA vario. I find the noise and buffeting annoying at anything but the lowest angle of tilt. I've tried all sorts of tilt angles and spoiler settings and nothing seems to work. I had an R100RT and don't recall any problem with the taller screen.
I'm coming from a GS850G with nothing. I may take it off. For now it gets pushed down fairly flat for peace and quiet.
Maybe if I was doing longer trips at higher speeds........ and I'm 5'10" ish

I have just bought myself a rockster and loving it... It has no screen or fittings and I'm looking round for one ... have you any advice you'd care to share please

I use a "flyscreen" which is home made, (old visor glued to the eyebrow). It raises there airflow to just above my collarbone, which is exactly where i want it, i like clean air on the helmet.

I'll put up a couple of photos when I'm not on the phone.

There are a few screens to try of the aftermarket sources, you have options.

I’ve a BMW screen on my R1150R. It looks the part, but deflects wind, rain and road shite straight onto my visit and crash helmet.
It was better and quieter without the screen.
But I don’t mind as it’s my customer loan bike and discourages customers spending the day riding around clicking up the miles.
I was given it by a customer who used to have it fitted to his 1150R and removed it 😄 it’s the black bike in the picture. IMG_1138.jpeg

thanks ... a bigger screen would be better.
