I never had a shed/workshop at all until 4 years ago. Before that i thought that projects would be done in the summer when it was warm.

In practice now I realize that in the summer no project works gets done as there is loadsa stuff going on. Projects get going in the winter when there is nothing else to do ..

So my next two projects .. fix up my winter hack r80g/s and was thinking of turning this

into the triumph 500 equivalent of this BSA B50 conversion...

It the same frames/wheels etc just a different engine

Is this sacrilege or updating/modernizing?

Or perhaps it would be better to start with a fleabay b50 frame and T100 engine rather use a perfectly good TR5T?

Ooooooh . . That TR5T looks great as it is :drool

Leave it alone and start a new project from bits :thumb :thumb

Bob.

If its a genuine tr5t then I'd leave it with the twin engine in it. Be fun to fit Daytona cams and head on it though and get it cooking so to speak. Be nice with a snarly Daytona engine in it.

Number 6 (Andy) has a lovely original 500 triumph single that he's been doing up. Worth getting in touch with him if you want some info on them he may even have some parts.

I like its existing lines, though there is something...............

Definitely need to sit down with a few beers and stare at it for a while.
Inspiration will come.

Nice bike, leave it as it is:thumb2 Or at the very most, just a gentle 'furtle' of it's poorer bits.

Its you bike, but-----

Reading the OP carefully I dont think a engine change is contemplated, , just a cosmetic make over with after market parts.

Whatever turns you on - it is your bike and your cash, but here in Oz bikes restored as close as possible to original sell for three or four time as much as some pimped up old tart like that B50.

The TR5 will have most of the good , late, engine bits anyway, so a copy of Stan Shenton's little book and not a lot of cash would get it really flying.

The three letters - CCM seem to make a huge difference to the desirability of the B50s, so if I was contemplating cosmetic changes I would see what is available in the way of CCM parts first, as IMHOthey would probable do the opposite of the pictured parts and add value to the bike.

And my B44 VS ? - as close as possible to original cosmetically, no visible CCM parts - it is my G/S which is , err, sensibly and stylishly modified.

over whelming

well thats an over whelming "leave it alone"!

So thinking about it, I agree - I'll do some minor fettling to her and start looking for an engine and frame to make a special.

Thanks for taking time to express your comments ... and helpful suggestions... and as a reward another pciture :-)

The exhaust is really cool hand made straighte pipe ... but its far too noisy for green lane or road use

"If it aint broke dont fix it" It took me years to understand this. The Triumph pictured is spot on:thumb

try and find some VW beetle end silencers they are just 8-10" long they might fit in somewhere and they really take the edge off straight through pipes:thumb2

Whatever happened to the "if it ain't broke then fix it until it is" mentality of our youth. We're all getting far to sensible.

Take a trip

To stourport, there's an old mx shop on the ring road and the old boy has one of the biggest collections of old BSA engined ccm's I've ever seen. He's got tones of stuff so would be worth having a chat with if your thinking of building something.
