I fully realise the problems that folks have experienced with the GS' 1200s mines included with 4 recalls etc etc etc etc.........However my bike has been lying in the street for three months without moving!, Hail rain snow etc.......and it's been tough up here in Scotland .............however you probably know that............record lows etc.........!

Took of the cover.......pressed the button..........a wee cough......and away she went:D:D:D:D

I agree - whilst there has been a lot of criticism here of BMW, which is entirely understanable if you are unfortunate enough to be one of the unlucky owners who have had faults, however, I am on my third GS1200 and all has been good. Not perfect and I have had recalls but I have never enjoyed myself quite so much on a bike. It has never let me down, and always excelled itself and embaressed others, or impressed them.

In fact where I am at work in my unit, if you take the GS across all of its models, is the singularly most popular motorcycle, with very little complaints at all. Again, some issues, but there must be over twenty of the things and the issues are few and far between. When I had a leaky seal, BMW footed the bill out of warranty (thanks to Steve at Coopers TW), and my new one is just two years old without any main issues, recalls and poorheated grips aside, 14k and going superb.

One of the guys at work with an FJ1300, who has owned it from new, has had a number of more serious issues, and is really frustrating for him. Battery problems, starting problems, corrosion problems, broken centre stand problems (ruining his fairing), and this week the rear suspension knuckle joint collapsed on him and he nearly died. Each time he looks up the issue and he finds that it is well documented somewhere and a known fault with updated parts etc. He even found that the suspension parts were in stock as it is such a regular occurance! In fact it could be an entry here on this forum if you changed it from FJR to GS!!!!!!!!

But I still reckon that FJR are cracking bikes, so in all of this there is an element of luck- and if you are lucky then you think yours is the best ever.
My two penny worth anyhow.

No monopoly

Do not think that you re the only unfortunates to have been struck by snow. We live over 1000 miles further South than you and it has not been possible for a month or more to use my bike as I normally do right through the winter; in fact our rather steep drive over 150 yards long, also defeated my car a few days ago (and i had to resort to 'Autosocks' to get home.) We are visiting Scotland in a months time by which time we hope that you will have seen the last of the snow. (We come courtesy of Ryanair from Grenoble and will hire a car at the airport;) I was last in Edinburgh in 1951!
