I have a Givi E52 box which came with the bike, I notice someone has fitted the rear brake light kit to the box but not to the bike. I can buy the kit to add the connections to the mounting plate, just not sure how to wire it in to the bike? If I just splice it in to the brake light wire will it upset the canbus and give errors?

If its leds in the box, you should get away with it. Try it - you'll do no harm. If you get an error, then you'll need to something like a small relay or suchlike.
If its a 'bulb' then you'll need a relay.

So looking at the installation instructions it is 27.3 watts, drawing 2.3 amps.

So assume I need a relay, any suggestions?

Assume also that I need to find a suitable power source to power these and splice the relay in to the brake light feed somewhere?

If you need a relay a 4 pin one will do wired as follows.

Pin 30 from the battery via a fuse
Pin 87 to the extra brake lights
Pin 86 from the existing brake light
Pin 85 earth
