Hi there

Does anyone have a givi E52 top box on their GSA?
I've just bought one along with the universal fitting plate (E250). I believe this is all I need to attach it??
The whole thing looks like it's made well and should work well, but the 4 small folded metal plates that you use to secure the fitting plate to the bikes existing rack are not quite big enough. They do not span the gaps between each bar on the bike rack and do not look like they'll do the job, unless I'm missing something?

I'm not that great when it comes to these kind of things, but it looks like it should be fairly straight forward so if anyone could offer advice it would be much appreciated.

many thanks in advance

Jake

E52, is that the monolock or monokey type?

The universal mounting plate jobber is just a bolt on to an existing rack affair, but check the weight limit. I think 3kg is exactly what 2 helmets weigh, so that's all its really designed to take. I had one on my previous bike (after Hein Gericke, Bristol unhelpfully told me it was unavailable for my make/model) and never had a problem with it.

I have one fitted. The metal plates don't span as you say so tighten the front ones onto a bar facing forwards and the rear ones facing backwards. I haven't had any problems at all.

I have one....

you have to 'fudge' the plate to fix it on, but easy done, mine is nice and stable.....:thumb

Thanks for the speedy replies guys :)
I thought it may be a case of 'fudging' it like you say and I'll probably try what Shenzi suggests first thing in the morning. I suppose its the same as most things that say they're universal - they don't really fit anything properly. I'm sure it will be fine once it's on though.

I have a monokey Givi box on mine and attached the universal fixing to the existing BMW rack. I bought four bolts with wingnuts and fitted it that way. As long as you watch the weight, its fine. I use it every day and never had a problem.

I was thinking of getting one for my 2007 GSA...................but a 3 kilo weight limit isn't very much at all is it????

Anyone reckon it will safely take more ?

We ride a GS fitted with said top box and when we go on our hols and the missus has packed whatever it is she packs it has to weigh at least 15 kgs  and to top that, she even leans on it at times and she ain't no lightweight :mmmm

If that don' convince ya, she sitting across from me now, in other words I hav'nt managed to loose her yet :blast

Kbada,

Nice one.....................and thanks to everyone for the advice.......made my mind up and will see if there are any deals at the upcoming NEC bike show.

Thanks.

Just a quick off topic mention.......went to the National Motorcycle Museum today...well worth a visit. Lots of exhibits and opportunities for picture taking.

Bought a BMW coffee mug to make up for looking at all the British bikes :D
