I've just ordered a Linksys Wireless-G Access Point to hang off the back (as Judge described it) of my BT Voyager ADSL router.

Is there anything I need to know when installing it, is it just a case of plugging it in then getting the three wireless equiped pc's in the house to find it and connect?

Yes.

My Linksys router came with a proper manual on CD and a single sheet of paper with Fischer Price style diagrams for the hard of thinking.

I didn't need to use either.

You might want to read up on how to secure your network to stop your neighbours downloading porn via your ISP connection.

The security stuff is real...

Basic stuff (read the router manual):
1) Change the name of the wireless network (SSID) to something only you will recognise. Don't leave it set at 'Linksys' or whatever.
2) Change the admin login name and password and WRITE IT DOWN. You WILL forget it.
3) Set up WPA encryption at the router, then on each of the PCs.
4) Have a beer.
5) Bask in reflected glory as an IT guru.
6) Have another beer...

It's not difficult to do and will prevent most tossers piggybacking off your system. There is more one can do, but probably not necessary.

Not sure about linksys, but if it has the option, also set the router to mac address filtering (you'll need the mac address for each pc your plan to connect) this will add a second level of security to the network!

(before you all jump on me, yes i know mac addresses can be cloned, but the casual residential surfer is unlikely to think about this or know how!)
