If you are close to other houses then you could be getting interference from a neighbour's wifi network when they are using their system.

Wifi access points have a number of channels available. Few people bother to change them from the default settings, channel 11 on my linksys.

Enter your router setup page (use a hard wired connection or you will have trouble!). Change the default channel to another number. Then go into the connection settings on each computer connected via wifi and change them over to the new channel.

I've stopped letting the router assign IP addresses as I was getting some signal variations and consequential drop-outs.

Have assigned the IPs manually in the router with corresponding entries in each PC. Much, much better. :thumb

Have had this same problem myself, and a few friends too.

The problem every time has been a faulty router.

I would take it back and change it,or if possible get a lend of another one first and see if the problem is just with your router.

I have networks very close that cause interference, but your software will tell you if it is trying to connect to next doors network. This generally wont cause your problem as it will just connect to the strongest signal available and carry on doing its job.

If you do get another network available connect to it and see if you stay online on it,this again will let you know if it is your router thats at fault.

Am pretty sure its a router fault tho.

Dave...........

Thanks guys.....Have tried another router and had same problem!!!!! Out of curiosity are you using Windows or some other software to connect??

As a matter of interest are we talking about just one 'puter, or do you have a PC that won't work wirelessly ?
