Eldest has bought a laptop and Belkin wirelss set up. G Router and USB adaptor.

laptop says it has a good connection with router, signal strength and quality.

Problem is it will not connect with any ISP. tried blueyonder, MSN and AOL

Main line is through telewest blue yonder with Surfboard Cable Modem connected to router with Ethernet cable

I do use AOL mainly on PC

Any ideas cos I havnt the faintest?

Cheers

Telewest's cable modems are quite fussy about the hardware (MAC) address of the device that connects to them. This is to stop you sharing a modem between a number of computers - exactlly what you are trying to do. The router should have something called MAC Address Cloning which means that you can configure the MAC address of the interface that plugs into the Telewest modem to have the same address as the PC that normally connects to it. I suggest a quick read of the wireless router manual to see how this facility is setup.

If I have guessed correctly which router you have, you need to look at page 32 of this manual - http://web.belkin.com/support/download/files/P74304-A-F5D8230-4_man.pdf
All you do is click "Clone MAC address" button from the PC that normally connects to the cable modem. Job's a good one...
