I have tried everything and come to the end of my understanding. Please help.
I run a wireless router using a Belkin router/ADSL modem. I set up a WEP key and The main PC and 3 other lap tops connect to it fine and are allocated an IP address using DHCP. I have a Medion laptop that doesn't. It connects to the network layer, but does not acquire an IP address. Using a fixed IP address or a default set up results in no access to the router or other network resources. Nothing can be pinged. Wired connection to the network is also OK. If I remove the WEP layer of security it connects fine. But that is no good.
The laptop is running Windows XP SP2. I bought ann additional USB wireless card from EdiMax and disabled the built in card. It hasn't changed the behaviour of the laptop.
Is there any way to monitor the process of allocation of IP addresses betwen the laptop and the router? Can you suggest any way to connect the laptop without turning off the encryption layrer? Would I be better with WPA, which I have never manger to get to work.
Thanks in advance. I realise this is a bit of a waffle. If you need more information let me know.
Regards, Path.
