Just bought the autocom active 7.

After reading the numerous posts as to wiring it into the bike electrics, i'm gonna locate it in the suitably sized gap in the fuse box...

Steptoe said to wire it into fuse 4. Is fuse 4 the same on all pre-1200 gs'. Only mine is the ABS 1100, and i've read all too often not to take a +ve feed from the rear brake light. Is there an easy way to tell which +ve feed comes from the rear light, which is the prefered method?

If i haven't made myself clear, drop me a pm and i'll do the honourable thing and deal with myself... :mcgun

Fuse 4 is the aux power fuse in the R1100 IIRC. I have recently been turned on to a wonderful little device called a 'blade fuse tap' that will facilitates circuit access without soldering, scotch blocks, etc. Google for more info.

You need to connect to a switched live feed (ie,a wire that is 'dead' with the ignition OFF,and 'live' with the ignition ON ).

Therefore, the feed wire to the brakelight SWITCH would do the job....

I`ve connected a couple of Autocoms to 1150 GS models, and found the easiest way is to unclip the flasher relay and splice into the green/blue wire.

Would that still be OK on the ABS version, as i heard maybe not.... :eek

Dick,

Tarkas right - the indicator relay is easy because you can pull the wiring out without removing the top from the fusebox. It doesn't matter if it's ABS or not, the only difference with an ABS bike is that you can pick up interference from the ABS units through your headphones if you either mount it near the ABS unit or connect to a "dirty" wire. Autocom suggest the brake light circuit because it's a relatively clean circuit. I had loads of problems with noise through my Autocom when it was fitted to my 1100, I fitted the same Autocom to my Adventure without any problem; interference seems to be bike rather than circuit specific.

There is some function of the ABS circuitry which uses the brake light circuit. It's reasonable well understood that if either the rear brake light switch is jammed on or the brake light bulb has failed, this can lead to ABS failure.

For that reason I would not use the rear brake light circuit as a feed for anything else - especially as there are plenty of other ignition feeds in that vicinity.

I wired my Autocom through the fuse for the horn. Pretty easy to get at in the fusebox and the Autocom is not drawing current when the ignition is off. No interference of any kind when the horn is used.

Thank you one and all :bow

I'll investigate and play tomorrow. Wiring diagrams in 'Haynes' will no doubt help......

Just to let others know, this isn't a closed thread, if you have any ideas - feel free............. ;)

Well done... :thumb

Go and have a cuppa ad a choccie biccy to celebrate.... :)

Just fitted it....connected into the tail light +ve , and the battery -ve

Thanks guys... :clap :clap :clap

Congrats...thats exactly what I did, not quite sure why everyone goes on about the brakelight. Most of us run with at least sidelights on all the time and you now have the advantage of shutting the missus up by turning the lights off! :thumb
