i am in the throws of wiring my gps3 + is there a problem if i use the socket on the bike i have a plug so is it a simple case of wiring my gps wire to this or will it cause probs

No problems but I recommend you put an in line fuse in somewhere. The GPS unit draws very little current so to avoid the risk of frying the circuit board in your GPS an in line 0.5amp fuse is a very good idea.
I took a power feed from the socket on the bike and ran it up to the cockpit where I used a small audio jack plug and socket to plug the GPS into. I have a 0.5amp fuse in the feed that I took up to the cockpit.

Or......................

Slide your audio jack plug over the 2nd pin from the left in the alarm[?] socket located right on top, near the headstock under the tank.

Works on my 1100 anyway.
