Wiring Hella FF50s
Andy
Wired mine in a few days ago. If you're only wiring into the dip circuit you will need to Scotchlock onto the white/yellow wire on the dip wiring. I'm going to replace this with a proper soldered connection later.
To get at it, its easiest to remove the whole front lamp assembly (screen, headlight shroud etc.) The only difficulty was reinstalling the beam adjuster - just fiddly.
I also needed to remove the tank to run power from the battery +ve. It also helps with cable tying the extra leads to the front. Fitted a waterproof in-line fuse unit (10AMP) so that it is accessable when the saddle is removed - placed under the tank recess over the air filter & cable tied.
I assume the Hellas have been supplied with wiring, relay, spade connectors etc. I soldered the spade connectors and also bought a pack of clear plastic insulators for the spade connectors just in case the relay moved and connections shorted.
Mounted the relay in the space at the top right of the instrument cluster (viewed from the front).
Havn't bothered with a separate on/off switch yet. The connections to relay were as shown in the Hella booklet.
Took about three hours to wire in pair of fogs and spots.
