Wischhafen to Gluckstadt Ferry

A mate and I are away for a couple of weeks leaving mid September. Haven't finalised a route yet (he prefers the day to day approach to touring!). One of the options is to head to North Germany and possibly into Denmark. Looking at a route I think taking the ferry from Wischhafen across the Elbe might be good to avoid Hamburg. I've seen a few guys using this on Youtube and it looks like a busy ferry with long queues. Every one I've watched the bikes just ride up the outside to the front of the queue and this seems to be acceptable. Any one used this ferry and can confirm this is correct.

It looks as though you need to go so far up to get the Ferry, it's just as long to continue past Hamburg? Assuming you're coming from Bremen, or nearby. And the Autobahn from the North of Hamburg (7 & 23) is de-restricted too.......

Thanks for the reply. We're getting the Hull Rotterdam ferry so I was looking at taking the coast road around Netherlands and Germany. And we might visit the Marine Museum in Wilhelmshaven on the way. I'm trying to avoid motorways/autobahns and take the more scenic route (hopefully)

Used it earlier this year. Long tail-back of both car and commercial. Road up the outside - no problem, and they always find a bit of space for a bike. Half way across my sat-nav said "make a U-turn"
