(according to the OBC) I got 36.28 litres into my 1200GSA. I had 328 miles on the trip. Don't think I'll trust the OBC down to zero! It had been a hard days riding around the Brecons.

Yep, I've had it down to 0 and got less than 33L in.

I suspect a dodgy petrol station pump is involved at least partly here. Highly profitable for them to get a couple of extra litres metered per fill up.

Get onto Trading Standards if you suspect the pump's reeling off the litres a bit enthusiastically.
I'll check mine. I think it's got about 45m showing on the OBC. Will see what it takes to fill.

Trading Standards love this, as there's no calibration of petrol pumps done until someone gets dicked and notices.

They were off like a shot when I set them on telcos after getting 50l in a car that normally struggles to get 40.

I have got over 34 Litres in the tank before now. My understanding is that BMW quote the 33L size on the GSA as being 90% of its total capacity as it has to allow for expansion plus you're not supposed to fill it right to the top as I did. So, I'm not so surprised about getting 36 Litres into the tank, more that the OBC thought there was enough in there that would equate to at least another 4 Litres.

But I guess you had not run out of fuel so don't know how much was still in the tank before refuelling? We all know how inaccurate the fuel guage is.

I regularly get 36+ litres in the GSA. Normally when it's showing about 20miles to go.

Mine works anyone else with a functioning Fuel gauge / Warning light ?

My fuel guage and warning triangle both work, but I suspect not that accurately. The only point I'm making is that I got over 36 litres in the tank and according to the OBC I still had about 4 litres left. That would make it a 40 Litre tank which I doubt is the case or as others have suggested, someone's on the fiddle at the fuel station. As I said earlier I believe the total capacity to be about 36 and a half litres on the GSA if you brim it.

Brimming the tank

Just a thought - on my old 2004 1150GSA, the one time I took the trouble to fill the tank totally completely on the centrestand, it came out of the overflow on the sidestand. Ok if you filled it right up and then immediately did some miles, but I wouldn't want to do it otherwise. I only did it because I was a skinflint and wanted as much in as possible at UK pump prices before getting on the ferry back home to the Isle of Man. But then I realised it was leaking when I put it in the sidestand to get on. Given that it goes on the sidestand on the ferry, I had to ride 15 miles in the wrong direction and back, completely defeating the object! If I'd been in a rush to make the ferry, I'd have been stuffed....

I've run mine on for 20 miles after the --- dashs come up on the display then managed to get just under 36 litres into it

I can't swear to this but I think the 33 litres is with the fuel nozzle in the tank until the pump clicks and not to the bottom of the cap. A manufacturer wouldn't quote until it's brimmed levels because you can and will spill fuel. Of course everyone fills until it's brimmed so we see different tank capacities.

Oh and the computer range indicator is about as useful as sucking your finger and sticking it in the wind. It relies on the fuel guage which generally tells lies.
