With/WO ABS

Guys, I was set on the idea of getting a GS with ABS but failed to consult anybody and began wondering how important they really are. So that is my question, how crucial is it to have ABS brakes or are they for heavy handed people who are destined to lock their wheels everytime they spot a red traffic light?
