Anybody got this bike? It was my first 1200GS but apparently I am still registered with BMW as the owner and they have sent me a notice of recall. The letter does not say what the problem is - does anyone know if there is a general recall on the old bikes?

That's weird as recalls normally come from registered keeper information stored on the DVLA database

Does the letter definitely use the word Recall?

In my experience, manufacturers/importers use both DVLA and their own owner information for major safety-related recalls, in order to get the maximum hit-rate.

But has anyone on here got my old bike? And does anyone know what the recall is for?

my mate got one for his 06 GSA but again no mention of what its for , waiting for mine to come through as I have the same year and model

Just found this snippit on another website , apparently this was done via press release in Jan 2014

'BMW Motorrad is running a technical campaign with customer notification in the USA and Canada for models of the R and K series produced from January 1st 2004 to April 2011. In the motorcycles concerned, small cracks may form in a flange on the fuel pump. In very rare cases, slight leaks can occur causing a smell of petrol or loss of a very small amount of fuel.

'There will be a customer campaign in the UK in the near future and the processes are currently being put into place. BMW Motorrad rates this issue as not being critical to safety and no safety-related situations have occurred to date, or are anticipated in the future.'

A spokesman added: "Technically it is not classed as a ‘recall’ in the UK, as it is not safety related and customers will not be asked to immediately return their bikes to the dealers. We would class it as a campaign."

Why BMW couldn't say this in the recall notice is beyond me

I suspect they will be sending out letters in batchs as otherwise the dealers will be inundated , I will await my letter and sort out then

Can anyone confirm what this 'Recall' is associated with?
If it is about the possibility of cracks in the flange on the fuel pump, then there is a 'big' thread with regard to this on the ADVrider Forum.

Can anyone confirm/clarify the nature of this?

Ragards,
John

The UK campaign is well under way, my 2012 TC went in for a fettle last week and NOG mentioned that they had about 150 units in stock and were replacing the fuel flange's. Mine didn't need doing. They go by the VIN.

I received a recall letter about my 04 model, made an appointment and presented it for checking today, cracks were found in the fuel pump flange and on a pipe flange on the other side of the tank. They are replacing the fuel pump completely, (seemingly the early models are different to later ones) all being repaired under warranty which is fairly impressive on a ten year old bike, I would be even more impressed if said item was in stock.

It is obviously the (possible) failure of a part common to a whole range of bikes. My HP 2 Sport had a new fuel pump support (or summat like that) fitted, as a part of a campaign, with no official recall letter. Park Lane just did the work when I dropped it in for a service, only telling me afterwards or I'd never have known.
