Wobbling swing arm

the original TSB I posted lists the issue clearly...

between the lines read - the random build quality means a few bikes have a wobbly swinging arm - when we test a normal one its OK - the cost to inspect all of them and undo all the frame and engine bolts and put them back together correctly isn't something we really care about - after all we don't expect many to last long enough to reach their first MOT. Therefore its cheaper for us to ask the dealers to follow training and make it the problem (aka the customer) go away

It’s a shame but I am tending to agree that they just haven’t had enough complaints yet. It’s worth saying though that my dealer has been great so far, they are asking the question, it’s BMW that seem to have their heads in the sand.
Perhaps a halfway house would be if they could just tell my dealer how to fix it? I would b3 happy with that.

the company is German... and the only place they publish TSBs with abandon is the USA - so there's little hope it was going to be written nicely was there

I’d be down to my local independent bike MOT garage pronto. If the tester says “no” and will put it in writing*, BMW will have to pay heed. If the tester says “they all do that”, you don’t have to worry.

* this may require paying for an MOT - my bet is that’ll be cheaper than paying a dealer to fix it in a non-warranty case. And you’ll need one anyway.

To fail an mot the play would need to be deemed "excessive " so some play should pass and be advised.
Of course different testers have different ideas as to what excessive actually means.
Please do tell the tester what you are up to, he does not want a visit by the dvsa following any ho ha you cause at bmw.

Thanks for your reply, I will definitely make the tester aware, the last thing I want is to drag someone in for doing a good deed!
