Both my rear wheel and disc on my 07 GS are running out of true. I have checked them and the disc is moving left and right in the same place as the wheel. This leads me to think that the hub carrier is out. As this is a shrink fit onto a spline is it possible that it could be out?
Also I changed the final drive oil and noticed that there is side to side play on the FD input shaft not much but you can feel it. So in summary it would seem that I have a wobbly hub and a soon to wear out FD input bearing. Does this constitute persuing a claim on the BMW warranty?

Cheers chaps. There is just a niggling doubt as there is only a small amount play on the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock and only when warm. :nenau

prob not

mate mine is exactly the same . the rear wheel if spinning on the centerstand is outta true and the disc is doing the same thing . there is a very very slight play at 6 and 12 wich is in tollerance . i took mine into hagons a propper wheel builders and they took the tyre off and explained to me it was the rim and a warped disc . the rims are welded outta true and will never be perfect . some are really really bad but within tollerance . i just need a new rear disc . so dont panic theres been some on here that have had 4 wheels replaced from new and all the same . since my diagnosis ive done 2 tours of europe and am off for a week to germany next week . il bet you it aint the bearing and its an outta true wire wheel lol . just chext that the pay aint excessive when cold and the hub splines are tight . i also put my mates wheel on mine and it run true so it proved it was the rim .

Guys, its not always the FD which goes wrong at the rear. May be your FD, maybe your wheels, maybe the discs, maybe the lot, but don't overlook the disc carrier.

Good point. It does look like the disc/hub carrier is out and that led me to ask if it is possible that this can be mounted on the splines incorrectly. I dont think that the disc is warped or the wheel bent as the rim and disc move left and right simultaneously. I have tried mounting the wheel in different positions and the run out is on the same position relative to the disc and carrier. The run out is about 3 mm at the rim and about 1.5 at the caliper. This was checked with the engine running, bike in gear on centre stand and the wheel turning.

wobbly

its an outta true wheel mate and ya discs warped . there was a prob with the carriers but they was cracking and yea some were warped . do you know anyone local with a gs with cast wheels . you swap back wheels and il bet you all the tea in china it runs straight n true and ya discs warped
