An area of Yorkshire oft overlooked, but yesterday I decided to pay it a visit, prompted by 2gses excellent tour a couple of weeks ago

I had to go into York to return something and thought after doing that on the bike I'd press on over to Stamford Bridge, to explire the villages under Garrowby Hill

Turning off before Stamford Bridge, I went to the lovely village of Buttercrambe, stopping to eat some lunch

I found these lovely quirks to interest me

I wonder what's behind that door?

A shelter for the village well and a lovely old church, plus a lovely mill house, by the old bridge

Leaving Buttercrambe, I ventured to Bugthorpe in order to climb up to Hanging Grimston (a gem shown to me by 2gses)

Splendid views of the Vale of York

Mooching about I travelled onwards to Thixendale, via the lost valley (so I call it)

A couple of pics of the splendid lych gate and church - we really do have some cracking UK architecture

I then rode on to Millington Dale, another lost valley and then Huggate, towards Warter Priory and cut back to Wetwang, to Fimber Nab cafe, for some excellent cake and tea

Homewards via Kirkham Priory and onto Castle Howard....................all on roads less travelled

Nice one, JB.:thumb

You should have said, we'd have tagged along for some of that!

You could have, except it was a last minute thing, late morning

Another time, though.................you must book an annual long weekend holiday to these northern parts, see you next year

Lovely report & pics JB.
As you say, an often overlooked part of the country.

......strawberry cheesecake on a ginger biscuit base for me!

We were on our way to Whitby and then I had a little route round the moors in the sat nav. Ride came to a halt at Levisham Station but we were almost at the end of my little route so we winged it back home.
