I've won this thing, don't know what the difference is between one with a front box like this and one with a just a rear?

Anyway, It's going on my 99 1100 (or I hope it will!)

Looking for smooth running and grunt.

Is it a chip job or does that code plug business work on an 1100?

I know there are loads of threads but most are about the 1150, can't see a straight forward one about the 1100

itl run ok , but a good chip may help, see what it runs like 1st

Just put it on and see what happens, you will probably find you don't have to do anything.
Put a remus race can on mine and it ran just fine, (well ok it did pop and bang a bit on overrun)

I'll be dropping the cat so would expect it to need some change to run at its best?

Once on I'd like to have a quick back up option rather than have to whip it off again. If that happens it would never go back on again - probably why you see them for sale:D

throw the cat out on a 1150 on an it usually makes sod all difference

Hi Squid,
Going off your pic, that's what I've got on mine; I'm just about to change it for a standard. Problem I've got is mine had a cat originally, and the 'new' standard doesn't have a socket for the lambda sensor. Had a word with Steptoe about how it would run, but he said he'd never had a problem with 1100's running, so never had to try anything. Fair enough.

Then had a word with Roy at (RGM?) at Croston; apparently the 1100 does shave a set up that, from his description over the phone, sounded similar to Steptoe's 'two spades and a bit of wire', and found a 'plug' that should set mine up to run on a standard without the cat/lambda. I'm going down to see him on Monday, I'll have a word and post back if you like.

Or maybe ring him yourself, see the 'Servicing in Manchester' thread. Seemed a very nice and helpful chappie...

Dave.

Interesting that, I'd appreciate you posting what you find. I haven't picked the thing up yet and have a few jobs to do service wise so it may be a week or more before I fit it.

I've never taken much interest in the exhaust. Mine being a 99 I'm assuming the bleedin big box underneath is the cat but it does't appear to have a
sensor.

If there are setting that can be used to match it better it would be top news:thumb

While you are there please ask his view on 99 with the remus and possibly a K&N.

Thanks

Not sure the UK 1100 ever had a cat as standard, maybe Steptoe could enlighten us here? Mine was a German market machine originally, which is why it had one. If your zorst doesn't have a connection for the lambda, I'd assume no cat.

Itlooks like your Remus has the connection though; one the left hand pipe coming out of the bottom can, looks to me like there's a bolt in blanking it off. Might be wrong like, but your original would have something similar with the lambda probe fitted to it.

Never even checked, just assumed it had a cat?

Squid, on your pic of the remus, the obvious hex-head bolt just left of the bottom box, about six inches in from where the pipes join the headers, is where the lambda probe fits. Check if there's one on your current exhaust, if not, no cat. That bolt is probably in there to blank it off for a non-cat machine.

I looked the other day and couldn't see one. Don't know why but I just assumed the thing had a cat. Looks like it doesn't then.

It will be next weekend before I fit the thing, not picked it up yet:blast

I'm servicing it tomorrow then I will be able to do a before and after test.

Remus

Hi Ihave the same remus on my 98 1100gs, mine doesnt have the lambda probe. I stuck it on 5000 miles ago it runs fine just the odd pop on the overrun. As for noise its not to loud (Claire asked today did I have the remus fitted) just a nice rumble and no louder than the intake noise
Hope this helps:beerjug:

One thing I would watch for is what the Remus does to your low-end torque. Mine was fitted when I got the bike. I had an FJ before that. Now the Beemer will run rings around the Fudge in most deparments, but it won't 'out grunt' it. We have a hill here (Burton Road past the Hospital for anyone who knows the area) that the fudge would pull up, and pull away on, quite happily in top gear, providing I was doing 20+. The Beemer is not happy going up this hill in top unless I'm doing 40+, and forget accelerating. I've read on a few threads that the original gives more low down grunt, which is why I'm going to try one on mine.

Never had any comments about noise from the Remus; it does change note to a nice subdued growl around 3k revs, but Linda has followed me for many miles and never had a problem.

Dave.

Thanks for the experiences, I'm going to put it on but I won't be over impressed if the bike has less low down pull.

I'd have thought this would be more to do with the fueling rather than a fixed feature of the exhaust?

So what is all this I hear about 'weight saving' by putting a Remus on? I've just picked up my 'new' original, and that in one hand, Remus like Squid's in the other, I can't tell a difference. Maybe a catted original weighs a bit more than a non cat, but I can't see a bit of Platinum on a matrix making that much difference.

Not a great add so far for the remus then:blast

Did you hear anymore about saved programs on the 1100 ?

fj was a four cyl, no matter what u do, a twin wont out grunt a four
