Which frame protectors do you use?

I wouldn't bother with them. Where the cable tires are attached it scratches the paintwork quite badly over time. It's not so much the cable tire that does the damage, it's the moulding where it meets the frame.

I put helicopter tape on the frame before installing the frame protectors.

How much effort is involved in removing the rear silver panels that you've sprayed black? Do they come-off and go back relatively easily?

Straight forward really , depends if you can wire a plug .

I had these on two bikes now , same set and never any damage to the frame , like nutty says , put a bit of tape if your worried.

Its 4 bolts and it lifts off. The seat mechanism / lock attached to it is fiddly but easy to remove / reinstall.

Mind the little spring . it will shoot off if not watched ( set lock mech)

I originally put PTF tap on but after taking the bike through Europe Russia, Mongolia, the Stans, China, Asia and Middle East no amount of tape would help. (Instagram: Fastestcamera)

I use mine for touring France , Spain Italy etc.
I think the places you go will do a lot more damage to the whole bike and I wouldn't worry about a few marks , my enduro bikes are covered in scratches and marks , but that's the character of the bike , as I'm sure your well travelled Gs will have the same marks of bad roads and spills , adds to the look and the image of a well used bike.
I only do roads and keep the rough stuff to my off road bikes as I like to keep my road bikes clean.

It was painted by a local guy , and all I know is that he used acrylic paints. Sorry.

mine was a second hand cover picked up cheap. Used hammerite satin black straight out of a can

I'm getting my Titanium Akropovic sleeve ceramic coated in satin black (£45) and Calsport sell the genuine Akropovic decal in silver. Should look ok and saves buying a new one.

True , but managed to get a secondhand one at the rite price , so when I sell the titanium one the difference in cost should work out the same as doing the painted route but without all the hassle , just got the job of waiting for the postman plus the painted Akropovic name does look nice .
