any one play WOW, I have agreed to rebuild a pc on a limited budget for my nephew and one of the games he wants to play on it is world of warcraft. so my question is what is a reasonable spec machine for playing this game. never played it myself so thought i would see what recomendations i would get here. i was thinking along the lines of 2gig dual core processor 1gig of ram and 256mb graphics card or will that be woefully inadiquate? it started out that i was just going to put XP on his curant machine, ME :eek with 256mb ram and 128mb graphics card  untill i suggested it probably wont run WOW and it would need a bit more ram to run XP :blast I probably wont be using new stuff so if anyone has a used mobo and prossesor up for reasonable ££ it may mean he can get a flat panel as well :beerjug:

Has he already got the WOW game software ?

no he hasnt got it yet but will be getting it soon with some of his christmas money.
thanks for the link gypsy not sure why i hadnt found that page yet :D

Tell him to save his money, I can let him have the original World of Warcraft game and Burning Crusade (unopened) if he wants them ?

a 386 and a 12" green screen monitor is the best way to play WOW.
i.e. NOT AT ALL.
For Christ sake - get the lad a football or something. There's nothing wrong with computer games in moderation but WOW seeks to pull youngsters in deeper & deeper. It will waste his life !
I used to play a bit and found it next to impossible to get anywhere and do anything without spending hours and hours and hours. So I dropped it.
It's not an environment designed for people to pop in for 10 minutes like the usual shoot em up. There are a LOT of folk on WOW who spend 5+ hours PER DAY playing !
Also, as well as the initial software, does the lad know that you have to spend £10 per month for subscription.
Honestly, if he can afford £10 per month he should be out chasing girls.

If you do this for your nephew, in a few months his parents will hate you for it.
Watch the South Park episode about WOW - it's not that far removed from the truth.

LOL good point well raised :thumb2 and yes i have seen the episode of sp
I will raise those points with them, the thing is he is recovering from serious illness. he has spent 6 months at Great Ormond Street Hospital and atleast 6 months in adenbrooks. he has no interest in girls due to the effects of the treatment he has had to endure :tears he is very lucky to still be with us! he loves to be out side but has serious problems with his energy levels and needs something to take up the hours he sits at home with barely enough energy to get up and go to the toilet. so its not the usual situation of lazy little git who wont go out. so i think he will probably still get WOW :type

Fair nuff. Sounds like the poor bugger could do with a bit of escapism.
Here are the min specs as recommended by Blizzard.
