ok guys i need a bit of help here

quest 1 or 2 or a 2610 ........ seems some people say q1 some say q2 and others say 2610 ....

ahhhhhhhhhh now i dont know what to buy plzzzzz help

I've had all three. Quest 1 is very good, Quest 2 isn't & 2610 is very good too.

Depends on your own particular needs but ignoring the Quest 2 (v.poor satellite lock & painfully slow redraw & recalc rates) either of the others are good units.

Quest 1 - smaller screen, runs on batteries, can be used away from the bike.

2610 - bigger screen, needs external power.

I'm using a 2610 at the moment :)

Quest 1 :thumb

On a more helpfull note there is a thread in here somewhere that sums it up. TBH I don't need any more than my Quest, even for touring Europe, and it's brilliant ;)

I kind of think that in a comparison between a Quest (either version) and a 2610, the physical size of the screen is going to be the deciding factor. In other words, you might find the Quest screen to be a bit too small if, for example, you are over 40.

I have no recommendation either way, because I have never used a Quest. But, be sure to have a look at both units, turned on and operating, before you make a decision.

ok thanks guys .... seems the quest 2 is out then ... and yes im over 40 :rob
will have to go and see a 2610 then, we went to the stella this year and a mate of mine had his quest 1 and he loved it

Quest or 2610 ?

Hi,

I have a Quest 1 and a 2610 and reckon to the following:

Quest

:) Long life battery (10 hrs if you turn down the brightness)
:) Good for tracking your journey for about a week. (I really liked this facility for retracing my route around Germany and France)
:) Can be mounted on a sports bike without looking out of place
:( Limited memory, so you have to pick your mapset carefully according to where you are going (i.e. maps to get you to the ferry and maps to cover your journey in Europe)
:( Small screen and buttons.

2610

:) Mine has 2GB flashcard, so has whole of Europe on it.
:) Masses of POIs (Points of interest)
:) Touchscreen and buttons are all operable with sports gloves
:( Limited tracking memory (about a day's worth)
:( Quite a bulky unit (but not on a GS)

Both the units work well in the car, but the 2610 has a remote control which is handy when driving.

If you have a GS - go for the 2610 (if you can't stretch to a 2720, which has better graphics) and get a 2GB card. I think the 2720 also has better tracking memory.

Al :D

if the 2610's the one you fancy, just wait a bit, once the Zumo is out I suspect a few 2610 owners will be thinking of upgrading and therefore want an offer for their old 2610s...

ive been on the garmin website and i cant work out if i can put topo maps and poi on the 2610 ..... any help plzzzzz

:rob

Garmin's POI loader doesn't work with the 2610. You'll need a 2720 or 2820 for that.

Dunno about topo's but there was a thread on this not long ago.

Don't be so quick to dismiss a 2610. I use a speed camera overlay (effectively a transparent map) and have the icons set up so that I can see them at 800m screen size. This gives me plenty of warning that I'm approaching one.
