Would 1250GS replace RNine T + 850GS?

Hi
I posted this on the 1200/50 forum but thought it would be worth here too:

I have an 850GS which is a great bike, fits me well, great spec. I also have a RNine T Scrambler as I love that boxer engine and the look of the bike. I don’t tour far, do day trips and around the city.
I could do with just having one bike. So if I like the comfort and feel of the 850GS but love a boxer engine, would a 1200/1250GS tick a lot of boxes? And if so, what version?

So any views from RNine T owners?

The 1250 is a brilliant bike but a big lump. How about a r9t urban?

I would say yes. The 1250 is a great do it all bike.

Test ride one.

Give one a test ride, also try the RS too as it also has the boxer engine and is a very underrated bike, plus it's quite a bit cheaper than a GS and if you're not going off road or doing loads of 2 up touring it's worth considering 😉

I have an 850 that I use for long-distance/duration adv touring.

I have an R9T Urban GS that I use for poncing about on (once took it from Land’s End to John O’Groats too).

I used to have a 1250GS for UK road riding (I swapped it for a Multistrada V4S).

If I had to choose just one bike for everything from the three you listed it would be the 1250 GS.

The 850 is very functional and has been very reliable. No trouble crossing Africa or the length of South America. Even though it’s near-perfectly set up for me now, it’s a hard bike to love. I find it rather characterless. It’s main virtue compared to the boxers is that it’s half the price.

The R9T is fun but even though I’ve upgraded the suspension, the seat, the pegs and the screen, it’s simply not comfortable enough to do thousands of miles a year on. It’s a good second bike. It as an only bike? Not for me.

That leaves the 1250. Hard to pick too many faults - assuming you’re happy riding the same thing as everybody else :D

Yes, that’s exactly the way I feel about the 850 and the NineT. I am just wondering if it’s possible that one bike will make me feel the good bits of both those two!
I ride RT1250 for Bloodbikes and so know the feel of that engine a bit, heavy old bike though.

Hi , i have an urban GS and Gs1250 , love them both for different reasons, done 5000 miles this year on the nine t including nc500 last week , The Gs 1250 is definitely easier to do big miles on however i would not hesitate to do a euro trip on the nine t , Nine t much easier for town traffic into Edinburgh . Suspension a bit poor on anything but smooth roads but does not really hold me back much . If i could only keep one it would be the GS1250 .Chris

I have a 1250GSA and a R9T Scrambler. They are completely different in every department but at the end of the day the GSA is simply a tool and as good as it is I find it hard to lust after.
Probably a reason you have two bikes.
