WOULD EMILIO HAVE DONE IT ON A GS1200??

Yes, his name's James :D

(I met Poppy the other week for the first time actually....what a really lovely lady she is....JB's a lucky guy :) )

:D

Poppy is indeed a lovely lady, took my wife to meet them the other day and they got on like a house of fire (as I knew they would!)

You've obviously had a real bad experience with the 1200 as everything you post seems totally negative

Whats the story????

I thought this is the moan and complain part of the forum, isn't? Everybody is doing it...

Not a particularly bad experience on my GS, just the usual niggles + an expensive gearbox leak... I love the bike overall and I am now used to its peculiarities... But then , I never paid 12k for a new one...

My only real chip on the shoulder is BMW's inept attitude towards recognising the few fundamental design flaws the GS has and putting them right.

Other wise the "poppycock" nonsense I was writing before was just idle time calculations while at work:

So we have 500,000 miles.

How many tyres? Dont we need a set every 10k? Lets make it 20k as we are cheapskating it to the linen.. = 50 tyres

How many shocks? They last abt 15-20k miles, which is generic bike average and bmw is certainly no better than average nowadays = 25 units

How many final drives? I reckon youy need one every 50-60k if you are lucky = 10 units at least...

Engines? They last decently, but 150k miles tops per unit? = 3+ units...

So, actually the amount of parts I listed is not that bad.... just regular wear and tear for the mileage...

Just ask any 150k miles per year cab company... You see Merc E320s an an 05 plate with 400k miles.... They have used 35 sets of pads, 20 sets of discs all round, 2 gearboxes, 2 engines (or finishing the last repairable bore out in the first) etc....

Bottom line, its nomal amt of stuff and certainly cheaper than replacing the car every 100k miles i.e 4 times over....
