Would you leave a GS parked outside...

Must be a BMW dealer thing, Jeffries mailed me last week about a similar service. Not sure about the steam clean though

Bahnstormers emailed me today :). I thought it was a bit pricy considering it doesnt take too long to clean & wax a gs including (Maybe being a bit OCD) waxing the spoked wheels on my 1100. Cant imagine it taking long to spray ACF125 over the bike, Is it also (just being cynical) a way of the dealers pointing out additional work they would like to charge for?

Rufty Tufty adventure bike riders

Surprised some of the bikes even get ridden considering our un-bike-like weather :eek

Depends where you live: I wouldn't park outside here, because sooner or later it would go walkies and become an expensive bonfire when the wee rascals worked out a) They can't start it and b) It isn't a "crosser"...

:rob

Thanks for the replies so far.

The parking spot would be around the back of our house, so pretty secure and I'd leave the top box on. The garage is being converted into an office - something had to give. Bad luck, bike.

I can't find BMW's warranty info and whether it somehow precludes storing outdoors. Anyone know where they might be hiding it?

Any cover recommendations? Would prefer to fork out for high quality!

Cheers,

Ben.

There is nothing in the Warranty conditions about keeping a motorcycle outside. Why should there be? It's a vehicle (ostensibly) designed to live its life outside, being driven the length and breadth of England / Europe / the world / Lidl's carpark, through all weathers.

There is information in the Owner's Handbook about long term storage.

Re the cover.... So fork out fir high quality; what's stopping you? Just Google 'Bike covers' or summat similar and take your pick. Ride magazine has probably done a scientific test and survey, for the really hard of thinking and most lacking in any imagination.

it is only 'pretty secure' if it is locked to something immovable and using decent chain/s and lock/s

Er, no reason beyond any big company trying to squirm out of it's (moral) obligations, while hiding behind "T&Cs" of the warranty/contract/agreement/whatever. Just asking...

Er, I did. And got pages full of cheap tat purveyed by the highest bidders for advertising. Oh, and R&G - as recommended by Ride...

I was hoping there might be something better quality than a £50 bit of plastic.

What's wrong, Wapping? Wrong side of bed or are you just the logic police?

Ben (but you can call me Sheffield, pal..:beerjug:)

camper vans, helicopter tape, leaving my bike outside.....ha ha Ha ha ha....please ATT, shoot me please.... It's getting worse.....

Oh and £40 to clean your bike........need I say more... My local Albanians clean my disco, inside and out including "shiney shiney" ( wax polish) for £15..... And it's normally a right shit state when I take it in so I bung the head bloke another fiver....

Buy with confidence.

Wife caught me measuring up the door from the garden in to the living room... I was thinking I could get the GS out of the garage and park it by the telly for the winter.

She was not going for that.....

:blast

Come on guys, give the fellow a hand.

The chap has turned up here from maybe years of Honda ownership. BMW's are different, so he's looking for advice.

This is a technical (and not to say emotional) subject and you are just taking the piss.

Oxford rainex £55.00 will fit a GSA.

John Lewis ribbed £7.25, needs refreshing every 2 hours.

Hahaha... Just showed her that.... Maybe it'll be me in the garage sleeping with the bike..

Once got caught carrying the engine out of my fizzy up stairs to my bedroom by my mum..... Probably wouldn't have been so bad if, I'd drained the carb first!!

Mate of mine got caught (whilst in the RAF) with a Bultaco in is living room by his CO, wouldn't have been so bad for him either but he was in a 3rd floor flat and had ridden it up the stairs ...........

Now, that's an idea.........
