Ask them to give you a print out of the current software prior to installation .
The sheet will detail also the software that's been fitted.
If they say they can't do it take it to a proper dealer.
Remember John's bike was done with the GT1 and not the MOSS computer.
Once a bike has been done with the MOSS unit it cannot be accessed with the GT1 in terms of programming stuff.

Doh:blast only just read this !!! When I picked the bike up this morning they told me that it was already on the latest release and therefore no update was done... I guess I will have to wait until i get a chance to ride another bike in known state to see how it compares...

Cheers,

Piggers

Got mine in at astles Grimsby
Asked for the software update and have been told you can't upgrade the software there's no provision to do that !!
Gave them all info on post but still say it's not possible ! HELP

There is. They need to connect an additional lead to the std diagnostic lead (its the one with the green switch on it) then start CIP from the desktop on the GT1. This will then allow them to reprogramme the bike.
I do know they're very short staffed at the moment so maybe that was a factor

I havent even had any of the recalls done yet ... but this sounds like I need to get into rainbow and get the recalls done and this at the same time :)

Good thread JB

Good thread JB

Speak to Steve in Service Desk, he'll know what you want:thumb

Took mine into Astle today for the upgrades.

Richard the service manager had initially said they were unable to do it,but after a bit of pushing and talking with the technition, and showing them printouts of this thread, they finally came up with the goods.

When I arrived this morning they told me there was a later update, but that they could install the update I had requested,I decided to aire on the side of caution and go with the one discussed in this thread.

Well was it worth £67.50.

Yes it was the bike(07 650 x/co)is much more responsive feels to have much more low down grunt especially in 2nd 3rd and 4th gears.
It's natural cruising speed now feels to be around 75/80 mph rather than 70/75 mph.

A massive difference is when your in traffic, before at anything between 22-28mph in third gear the bike used to be very snatchy, which necessitated constantley changing between 2nd & 3rd,it's now silky smooth between 15 & 30mph in 3rd gear.

Overall a great improvement and many thanks to JB for his origional post and bringing it to our attention.

Steve

Let me just make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

BMW are selling a bike, knowing that there is a software upgrade that they can do to make it run that much better, but they aren't doing it automatically? :blast

They don't do themselves any favours, do they :eek

Fanum, its for the older bikes. Stuff they're selling now will have already got it.
Like everything in manufacturing things improve over a period of time. I think it shows the manufacture still has a vested interest in the older bikes.
The question should be - how many dealers know about it or are prepared to do it.
Look at Astles -intially said no then found out about it and sorted their customer out. Result 1 happy customer.
Forgive me Fanum ( in that I may have interpreted your reply as ) you seem to think its a god given right to do everyones bike for free. The bike's probably running ok in the first place its just something's come out to slightly improve it.
This is not a dig or to decry your original comment by the way. As I stated it may be how I interpreted it

I'll be going to Rainbow from now on!!
I was told by Richard it was not possible to upgrade the software even when I said other dealers were able to do it!! Now to hear that they have done it for wrinkleyowlie after a bit of pushing has annoyed me more, not only was I made to feel a fool for asking but now they have realised it can be done why have they not called me!!
I'm pleased wrinkleyowlie got his bike sorted but I'm done with Astles and look forward to dealing with Rainbows

I used to deal with Astle years ago when they were Harvey's but had a bit of a fallout with them and, began to deal with other dealers including most recently Rainbow.

Rainbow always gave excellent service and I would say nothing negative about them.
However when I swapped my bike last month Astle gave me the best deal, and to be fair to them I believe they are trying really hard to develop the bike side of the dealership and to give a long term commitment to customers.
When I initially asked Richard about the updates he said that he was unaware of any that were available.
i then sent him the information that had been discussed on this thread in turn he contacted BMW who confirmed that the update was compatible with the G650 series.
I don't hold anything against Richard for not immediately knowing about the update, and OK maybe I shouldn't have needed to "actively encourage" him to find out but I did and now he is aware of what needs doing.
Don't be to hard on him,I believe he is a genuine guy who is trying his best.
My recent experiences with Astle have been very positive, lets hope they continue to be so.

Steve.

Speaking to rainbow when they did mine they told me they didn't automatically do it on all services was that some people might not like the "upgrade" I've gotta say I think it's really changed mine for the better and I'd reccomended it every time.
