wowowowowowow noise

ah, but the OP's original question mentioned nothing about gears. may just be his tyres as was mine.

yours sounds more like a fucked gearbox though, or possibly a random harmonic?

Ah but , the OP asked for "any ideas".

I would hardly think a fucked gearbox from new would see 6K miles put on it.

Then give your definition of 'fucked', because is sounds very different to mine!

to tell you the truth, i was going back to change "fucked" to "dodgy", but history suggests you'd pick me up on it, so i left it.

let's call it "defective".

Or better still let's wait for a diagnosis. Perhaps it's not the gearbox at all. Whatever it is it only happens in 5th.

I wasn't aware that I have a history of picking you up on things, but hey, if that's how you see things then crack on. :thumb2

I did at least 6000 miles on an old pre unit Trito. with f***ed gearbox that leaking oil and whined badly in 3rd gear like an ancient HGV going uphill. It never went thrum thrum, but it did have Avon SM grip free tyres so the treads would have been silent. But it later got Dunlop TT100s which were also non-noisy.

I did wonder if it was anything todowiththedrillings in the disc brakes - I have had noise from car discs for this reason

I've heard this thrumming on two of the new demo bikes I have driven, more on the second one than the first, but my own '04 GS doesn't do it at all. Maybe tyres, maybe exhaust; mine has a Remus can and I've had three tyres on it (not all at once mind)
