Could I please seek some advice on a small engineering issue in relation to the exhaust on my 2008 Yamaha WR250R.

Yesterday, I was on my way to work trough the leafy back lanes of Sussex, when the silencer section of my exhaust parted company from the bike, and things got very loud!

I actually had to continue to work, as the thing had shot off into to overgrown verge, lost from view. I returned later with a colleague & about half an hour later found it.

It appears that the upper rear fixing bolt had fallen out and the whole weight of the silencer was hanging (this weighs about 9llbs and I think has a catalyser ).

So in the end the metal where the silencer joins the section of the rear pipe has broken away from each other (this was one complete section not a joint).:tears

So do you think that this would be possible / reasonable to repair (neatly!), or would it always be a weak point? Would I need to find someone with any specific welding skills or equipment? Any recommendations for the East Sussex area?

Alternatively, does anyone know of anyone who would make a road legal after market exhaust for this bike?

Just to focus my mind the local Yamaha dealer want £632.00 for the rear section!:censor:

Any help appreciated.:thumb2

doesnt look rotten ,so if no warranty(which i doubt there will be) , it should be able to be repaired by any decent welder

Guys, thanks very much for your replies, JohnnyBoxer, you were right!!! I had completely forgotten that this bike came with a 2 year warranty.............Which runs out today!

I phoned the dealer in Woodford who I bought it from, he checked that it was (just) still in warranty. He gave me some advice re Yamaha warranty issues, and told me to speak to my local dealer straight away.

I popped down there yesterday afternoon (silencer in hand:augie) and spoke to their service manager. After an initial bit of suspicion, he as concerned about the lack of stamps in the service book, but I was able to prove that it had been owned by Yamaha until I purchased it from the dealer.:D

So we get the price from the stores £632.00! Even he is shocked (its only a 250), he phones Yamaha Warrenty Dept, no problem, warranty repair agreed!:JB

The only slight problem could be the availability of the silencer. Because its not a common bike, in the worst case they might have to go to Japan to find one, if there are none in the UK/Europe.

Overall im very relieved!:):thumb
