Wrong gearbox oil?

I recently changed my FD oil and gearbox oil from BMW standard issue service oil to Castrol Syntrax Universal SAE75W-90, API GL4/GL5

and i have now got problems with a 'noisy' box ( ithink, just about to unclip things to see wots up)

Any thoughts from the great unwashed?

I haven't got the owners manual to hand but seem to remember that the spec. was for SAE90. By putting in 75-90 you've effectively made the oil runnier at low temperatures so it will rattle more at start up but shouldn't be any different to what it was originally when it's up to temperature.

Normally the gearbox oil is hot at the end of a trip but you stop and switch off the engine before removing your helmet/ear plugs so maybe don't notice that the hot box is rattlier than when it was cold. Maybe

I use Castrol Syntrax Longlife SAE75W-90 in mine, never had a problem.

perhaps its a bearing going
got a dribble of oil at the back (so to speak) and a rough noise from the back of the box

Me too, tried ordinary EP90 and suddenly became 'aware' of the gearbox - as in you could hear it when driving along. Changed back and all is well
