Hi All. Is anyone using or had experience of the Wunderlich emotion aluminium tool box? I would be interested in any user info..........F

No, but I'm fitting one of Mark Hooton's (Cymarc) boxes to my BEGR pannier rails later if you interested in knowing how it goes :nenau

Would be very interested in your views. The one review of the Wunderlich box I've seen was due to the small opening/door, 2.5" wide I think it was, you are limited on what you can get in.......F

Saw one of these fitted on a GSA the other day. Looks the part but quite small (ok very small) so limited what you can carry. I have a hugger on my bike and was advised that it might hit the tool box if rear suspension fully depressed so will leave it. Now have a BMW Ali Top box fitted all the time so not needed. There are two versions on the market, one rear opening and one side opening which of course is no good if you are considering panniers at a later date so check what you are getting.

I've got one of Cymarc's, well made and fits on three points some others I believe only use two points of attachment. Have ridden two up with luggage and haven't encountered any contact problems. Might be a tad small to get my airmaan compressor in though. BTW the side opening door is better for easier loading and secure because it's hidden by the pannier.

I measured up my bike. Anything thicker than 80mm will be hit by the hugger but with no hugger it could go to 95mm. Area would be the same as the side case frame.

Unless the top front corner is cut away (like the Cymark) a case will have to hand a little below the pannier frame. I did not have time to work out how high the final drive case can travel on full bump. That will be the limiting issue for height.

It looks like there might be a suitable Peli case to fit but again no time to research and it would need suitable brackets.

I got the gs emotion one on me gsa,no issues wot so ever, top bit of kit, and you wud be really surprised wot u can get in it:thumb2, the trouble with the cymarc one is, to get to wot u want, you've got to remove your pannier first(if you've got em fitted that is), and fully loaded, that would be a pain in the arse IMO:blast, but I spose its horses for courses:cool:, had no issues with water leakin in, whether it be from road spray/rain, or when I wash the bike(bit of Vaseline on the seal helps tho:augie), and as for the fixing points, I think 3 point fixings is just over the top, two fixings are ample and its rock solid once bolted up, the box itself has tapped holes and you even get nylocs for the inside of the box, so like I said, rock solid:thumby:

I got the original GS emotion toolbox & find that the lock can seize up in winter if you don't operate it & oil it regularly - although I see the later ones seem to have a plastic cover fitted - presumably to resolve the issue.
The rear door also gets covered in road crap & can let some water in - but otherwise it's fine.

Having seen Mr Hooton's product, it's definitely an improvement on the GS Emotion one, & the side opening wouldn't be an issue for me, as I normally ride without panniers ( it only takes a minute to get one off anyway)

I'd go for the Cymarc one if I needed a new one, but it's not that good that I feel the need to change from the GS emotion one !

I got Mark to leave the fixings un-attached on the Cymarc toolbox he sent me (black) so I could fit it myself to non-BMW / Touratech pannier frames (BEGR).

I still needed to move the hinges to avoid the pucks on the panniers but it has fitted nice and securely and seems to be a sturdy piece of kit, cheers Mark :beerjug:

I don't think there's any claim that it's waterproof but its easy enough to put any intended contents in sealable polythene bags.

I bought it for more storage when my panniers aren't fitted but quite like the idea that its extra secure when they are.

I have had one of these boxes for over a year now, it was not a Wunderlich one but made by someone else. Its all ally with a rear opening. I use it to store a few spanners, tyre repair kit and other bits and pieces. You can cram a surprising amount of things in it. It is not totally waterproof so best to bag things up in freezer bags. The hatch is quite small and its easy to catch your hands on the sharp edges.

Mark didn't make his box then, if I was going to get another one I would get one of his with the side opening.:thumb

I did all my research on these 12 months ago and ended up with the twalcom raid box, as it was a sensible price and the only one that appeared to be water resistant and so far it has not let water in.

The only problem has been with a pillion on and if I forget to rack up the suspension the box clouts the mudguard when the suspension compresses.

There is a video on U-tube about this problem.

I've come across another box made by DS Bike Protection, Spain. Looks like a decent bit of kit at a reasonable price. I've been in touch with DS regarding sizes but can't get the internal width. My Spanish is not good enough. If anyone is using one I would be interested to know the internal width.Cheers......F
