Wunderlich Touring Screen

I'll add this numpty question here from the mechanically illiterate :-)

Do you add loctite to the fasteners when refitting the screen?

Nope, there was no sign of loctite on the threads, so i never added any on reassembly...

Screen has arrived and fitted, a quick blat up the road and I can notice a definite improvement, or is that just buyers bias :-)

Anyway next week have a trip from Cornwall up to London, so I'll be able to form a considered opinion then

Keen to hear the results - am tempted by the bigger screen too...

After a 270 mile trip today, here are my first impressions.

My reason for seeking out an alternative are that at 6'2" and long in the body I found that the standard screen especially on the high seat setting and to a lesser extent on the normal setting caused an annoying amount of turbulence, so much so that I couldn't have my visor partly open as the vibrations it caused were wearing. The new screen is a revelation, I rode the journey up on the standard seat height and I was sat in a bubble of calm air, fantastic. The screen didn't need to be up as high as the OEM version either, I guess the shape manages the turbulence better, also because it's slightly wider I had less drag on my shoulders.

I often ride with my flip lid open, enjoying the fresh air and this screen makes this a much more pleasurable experience even in inclement weather, Raising myself off the seat the calm bubble seems to extend a fair way and on the journey back I'll try it with the seat raised but anticipant equally good results.

When you guys are referring to the OEM screen are you talking standard or comfort screen?

Did you get a cold blast of air into the back of your head with the standard screen, and if yes, has the new screen stopped it?

I have road tested the new RT twice and each time the back of my head got hit by a icy blast of cold air, really weird, absolutely no draught at all with my GS-LC?

I've been commuting on my RT LC over winter, with standard OEM screen, no icy blast on back of my head... :nenau

I've got the comfort screen on mine so was interested to hear if anyone had compared the Wunderlich one to that?

Thanks for pitching up at Lovetts today.
It was good to try the screen, thank you.
All your other bits caused a good amount of interest to other BM club members :thumby:
Good to meet you

My pleasure Ric. Likewise good to meet you and the rest of the bunch.
Shame I had to dash off rather sharpish though.

All the best

Hi Bry,

Done a few hundred miles now with the new Screen, and i'm very impressed with it.

Its a few inches higher and wider than the OEM screen and it has extra winglets that seem to work well.
It provides excellent wind protection for my whole upper body, including my arms, whereas my arms and shoulder were in the breeze before.
I'm 5' 8" but i can see clearly over the screen on its lowest settings ok, and its optically perfect to look through (and its slightly tinted).

I'll keep the Wunderlich screen on for winter, but i'll probably use the OEM screen next summer, as it might get a bit too hot behind the Wunderlich.

Low

High

Sounds odd but it worked for me

I am also 6'3" with the seat up high. First time I took my sparkly RT and played with all the knobs I got quite a lot of buffet around my swede which was not pleasant. What I found was by lowering the screen a little the buffet fell on to my shoulders, which was fine, and my hat was in stable air above the turbulence, also by lowering the screen slightly I got a bit of pressure on my shoulders which took some weight off my arms.
