I'm currently out in Europe with my G650X-country which I've made a few changes to. I'm testing the equipment ready for a bigger trip into SE Asia (solo) but currently I'm two up with enough luggage to sink a battle-ship. I've made a lot of changes to the bike, some are working great, others have already crapped out (damn you, Motrax).
If anyone is interested I've found a very cheap fuel solution which has boosted my range to 200miles while cruising without reserve or additional emergency fuel bottles. It's working fine with no complications and was up and running for well under £100.
Link to facebook image gallery. Sadly I lost my camera on the way out so pics are limited. I now have replaced it and although not great quality, pics will again be forthcoming.

Link to daily diary on HUBB. Warning... I have way too much time to think now so I'm happily rambling away. There are some in-depth thoughts as to what works and what doesn't which might help with anyone else upgrading these awesome little bikes.

Cant view your FB page but would be interested in the fuel solution you've come up with

arma you dont think its a bit dicey hanging five litres of petrol of the front of the engine right below the exhaust to me thats the last place i would of picked all it would take would be for the breather pipe to melt on the exhaust and its good bye xcountry

Honestly it was very easy and cheap and to my mind, does the job better than anything else on the market. If you're interested I can post a how-to but it was very, very simple.

A couple of things here......
Firstly, how can you say your mod "does the job better than anything else on the market"? How do you know that, have you used everything that is on the market?
Secondly, you're going to have to explain how that works, ie, exactly which of the extra bottle is gasoline, and how you have piped in the fuel and breather lines......
Thirdly, have you thought about impact resistance from both road debris and accident damage should you take a tumble......

So, sure, post up how you have done this uber-mod, I'm all ears.....:popcorn

Timpo.

Tim, you need to bear in mind that (1) he is a genius and (2) he knows ... because he has done the research himself and "looked into it".

I dont think you can really question him on this :rob

The GURU!

Just accept he is the guru, and follow:

You will understand when you read posts like this what a sane and balanced man he is, and why he is right to be our guru:

The best part is this quote:

"Real adventure riders don't buy expensive new bikes on credit, we buy proven, simple, useful machines from second hand adverts and spend months preparing them by stripping off anything with "made in china" written on it. "

It has become my mantra.

I now KNOW what is a "REAL adventure rider". It looks exactly like this:

The rest of us are pathetic fakes.

Bugger!

"Real adventure riders don't buy expensive new bikes on credit, we buy proven, simple, useful machines from second hand adverts and spend months preparing them by stripping off anything with "made in china" written on it. "

Just bought a Galaxy XTR250F off this site after reading up on advrider, mychinamoto and horizons.

So the checklist :-

  • we buy proven, Check
  • simple, Check
  • from second hand adverts, check
  • stripping off anything with "made in china" . Just done that and I'm now left with empty space. Bugger! :blast On the plus, easier to get in the garage now though!

How will anyone manage on the new G650s? I thought Loncin made their engines but I could be wrong.

(And no, I'm not suggesting that the XTR is anything like a RTW steed; just a cheap bit of fun for me)

Enjoying the articles / ride reports / "discussions" :popcorn
