Round 8 of the British XCC championship took place at the mod site just outside Driffield sadly the last time this venue will be available as they are planting 500 trees and it won’t be used for motorcycle competitions anymore.
Ollie went into this round with a five point advantage in his youth class and was feeling pretty confident for the two and a half hour race on Sunday. We drove down for the Saturday practice and he did a couple of hours riding not wanting to tire himself out for Sundays race.
Got an ok mid pack start but had a two minute lead by the fuel stop on lap five so all good at that point however he was overdue on lap seven and I was getting worried. He pulled into the pits two minutes late and was in agony with the worst stitch he’d ever experienced. He had a drink and did some breathing exercises before setting off again to ride the last hour and started to make time on the leader who’d passed him whilst he was stopped. In the end he finished a solid second which was enough to win his championship by eight points !
Super proud of the lad as it’s his first season on an enduro bike and these races are tough.
