Xchallenge project

Cheers guys for the comments.... My Passion is motorcycles and i'm as happy building as riding:thumb2

Packer::::: The Centech fuse panel has the wires screwed in just like a connector block, it may be a bit vulnerable but there is nothing stopping me from filling the holes with grease once all the wires are in place. It's quite well hidden from water i hope and im also hoping the low mudguard will keep most of the dirt out... Bit of a trial and error thing really, have to see how it goes:thumby:
Hopefully the racks will be ok for that sort of panniers if i don't get on with my giant loop...:beerjug:

Just a couple more pictures of the rack now that i have the lower stays in place.

Had to do a slightly different fabrication on the left side as the exhaust is in the way, and the rear subframe on these bikes is not equal both sides.

Detachable cross brace, Just incase:cool:

Mounted a locking box off the 1200gsa on the one side just so i can keep tools and some personal belongings tucked away..

All back of now and ready for a lick of paint:D

Working through my bike at the moment and similar thoughts, there's enough protection and some dielectric grease should sort any water:beerjug:
Brilliant thread btw.

The Racks are all finished and painted and back on the bike. Have welded a couple of loops on to hold my giant loop.

I decided to make an adjustable gear leaver as i can't ride the bike with my motocross boots on:( And as the Touratwat one is so expensive i wasn't going to pay the extortionate prices.
I think it must have cost me about 30 pence:D

<a href="http://imgur.com/TzwNPGL"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/TzwNPGLl.jpg" title="Hosted by imgur.com"/></a>

Drilled the holes so i can adjust it and counter sunk the rear so that the bolts don't touch the engine casing

<a href="http://imgur.com/UG4vtQw"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/UG4vtQwl.jpg" title="Hosted by imgur.com"/></a>

Here it is all bolted into position, and it works great:)

<a href="http://imgur.com/5FHWB7N"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/5FHWB7Nl.jpg" title="Hosted by imgur.com"/></a>

It's wider and more comfy for distance bit it makes the bike a little taller, so im on tippy toes:blast

Forgot to ask something about the ktm fender...
When you were choosing the height, did you open the fork and check for clearance under full bottoming out? The radiator is the first place to get smacked...

And do you have any pic or two of the tail tidy?

i measured the distance and it is fine and no way it will smack the radiator..

The tail tidy is made by R&G i think but i had to make a couple of small brackets to lift the indicators up away from the exhaust or they would have melted..

Will get some piccys tomorrow for you:thumb2

This is the version that Erik of hotrodwelding has made.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=23416128&postcount=2038

You can see there's barely a gap at the back of the fender, because that part meets the radiator first.
Just thicking about this, reason you were able to mount yours higher - is it because ktm fender is a lot shorter so under compression does it miss the edge of radiator?

From a side view mine is pretty much cut off where the top rear bracket is on the 800gs one. If i added the extender it may touch on bottoming out the forks. i wont know 100% until it happens but as far as i can measure there is plenty of room:beerjug:

Good thread ,very interesting , Have you a plan to do a certain trip on the bike?

That looks like a great bike you have built rocky, I have just purchased an 08 x challenge but unfortunately I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to the mechanic side of things :blast can I ask what any of you blokes think about the touretech tank as aposed to the x tank apologies if I've high jacked the thread tell me to bugger of to another section :D

Decided today to make my self a pre filter for the air box, Only a rough one for now to see if it works...

<a href="http://imgur.com/xyxI8hh"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/xyxI8hhl.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

Good thing about this is i can still get the airbox cover on, but i can also leave it of if i want it to breathe more.

Also decided to get myself a set of Excel A60 rims.. Some of the strongest rims on the market....I hope:rolleyes:

<a href="http://imgur.com/reCbOXo"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/reCbOXoh.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

I think it looks nice now with the black rims :D

<a href="http://imgur.com/IFKP1Wi"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/IFKP1Wih.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

Now got a nice new Ohlins steering damper... Bought off a guy on the ktm forum..

It turned up with 2 mounts, totaly random buy as i was going to make brackets and my own head stock mount.. But it turned up and the whole lot fitted:D

<a href="http://imgur.com/HhOuyh9"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/HhOuyh9h.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

Even the tank went back on without catching ;)

<a href="http://imgur.com/w0ZK6jq"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/w0ZK6jql.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

Also added a nice Akropovic can, sounds loverly now, and got a bit more low down grunt i think..

<a href="http://imgur.com/UZl3IEl"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/UZl3IEll.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

All serviced and ready for the shake down net week, and off to Morocco again:)
