Ok ill try to make this simple, Xcounty wheels on a xchallenge massive road handling improvement (on TKCs) but now the gearing is bolloxed :D what size sprockets would be recommended to get a good road/motorway set up.

Would prefer to keep Xch rear (49t?) is this possible? maybe 17t front 49t rear :comfort can you get/fit a 17t front :nenau

I'm sure i could find the answers but as sure one of you has them to hand :thumby:

Cheers :beerjug:

49t is not the standard rear sprocket, 47t is, so mated with a 16t or 17t as used on the -country or -moto, should give you a comfortable 70mph cruise speed.
Fit a 47t and have a selection of fronts to trial.
Demon Tweeks can get hold of AFAM sprockets in steel, a hell of a lot cheaper than OEM kit.

I found out yesterday sock is 16t on the Country

I've always used 17T front on the Xmoto for a 200 Mile commute,
It would give you a decent cruising speed of 85/90 without supping loads
of petrol.
Obviously I would never travel that fast myself ,just a recommendation.
I've tried lots of different gearing on it,
I use a hard anodised aluminium Talon rear sprocket std tooth
and a steel front also Talon, DID Xring chain ,hand riveted by myself the old way with a hammer and set.

I used to get through 5 front sprockets and 3 rear sprockets to one chain,
and you ought to get 25K miles out of that.(on road)

Thanks guys not sure why I thought its was a 49t rear but it is indeed a 47t

Good to hear 17t fronts are available, already have a 15/16t and I'm not happy with the cruise speed using the 16t xcountry wheel set up however i think it would be perfect for light trails.

Just taken the 17 off ........

Just taken the 17 off to go back to std 16 as the gearing is a bit off for slow traffic but is good on the longer run, possibly runs out of puff on some hills!
It only just fits behind the swinging arm mount and is probaly the largest to clear the cover/casings if memory serves.
I think it was off a CCM.

Just called Talon. The 17tooth sprockets are £14.08 inc VAT and delivered.

So will give that a go once it arrives on the Xcountry.

I've been running the 18 tooth sprocket for around 750 miles now.

Comfortable cruising speed is around 5mph higher at 80mph.

The fuel consumption has improved very slightly to 73mpg from around 70mpg inspite of the higher speed on the dual carriageway (around half the miles completed).

So win-win at the moment.

I assume your talking about a xcountry wheel/sprocket?

Yes, this is on an XCountry. 130/80/17 rear tyre and a 47 tooth sprocket.

Wondering now whether I can stretch it to a smaller rear sprocket as well since it still accellerates fine without any issues with hills - not that there are many steep ones on the A3 anyway.

That good to know as I have Xchall and xcountry wheels but only 1 (47t) rear sprocket. Looking at all use/speed options.

140/18/18 on the Xchallenge I understand so that would be further lowered gearing compared to what I have.

47tooth rear sprocket looks to be standard across the G650x range.

Does an F650 rear sprocket fit does anyone know?

That should be a 17tooth sprocket of course :augie

No

If you have Xco and Xch wheels and 2 cush hubs you could use a 47 rear with the Xco wheels and 49 with the Xch. Stock gearing for both bikes is a 47 rear but Xco has 1 more tooth on the front.

I have new alloy 47 and very good steel 49 sprockets gathering dust in my shed :augie

Followed the rabbit......

Spent a little time looking for a 17t front sprocket online yesterday but without success.

So call me lazy or stupid but has anybody got a link or something. :blast

And yes i have looked on demontweeks and talon :nenau even used the search.
