Hi all,

the finish on the plastics on the rear tail section has started to crack and come off. it appears that the plastics on the G650X range are painted / coated.

has this happened to anyone else, and if so what have you done about it?

Yep..................pure crap and I put a sticker over it:blast

anyone know how much a new rear section is (will probably put one on if i ever sell the bike)

i have done a bit of research and have found a product called Plastidip (look on supermotojunkie.com for it) a guy painted his ktm panels with it and another painted his Husqvarna panels with it. it a sort of rubber paint. so its flexible and wont crack. also, it can be pealed off if you dont like it. think i will give this a go. going to paint the rear panel black and then put some red graphics on it.

I'll take any cracked plastic rear sections of anyone, I want to cut the left side down..... as an experiment!;)

pretty much cracked the paint on every bit of plastic on my xchallenge, i drop it too many times to worry about repairing it:augie

Oh well, ive ordered the plastdip so will let you know how it goes.

Hey Iain, what happened when you tried the Plastdip? I have a couple cans of the spray-on Plastdip but haven't tried it yet.

What I have done....successfully, is repaint a Husky 630 front fender. First attempt failed dismally as getting paint to stick on plastic is very difficult. However, learned about 'adhesion promoter' for plastics. I got some of this (not this particular one btw) and used it before painting and that seems to work.

Another thing you may want to checkout is the spray primer/filler from the same people who sell the Plastdip. Using this and then some wet/dry and some plastic specific spray paint gives a real good finish.

I'm going to put a full sticker over the whole tail section, found someone who does them in any colour and when I have all the details, I'll post it all up
