Afternoon !......I have used garmin Nav 5 for a number of years, changed to a new XT2....however, first few days its great in all aspects, been around Northern Scotland for the last week and it keeps closing down and powering up again and repeat......never does it at a set time, sometimes runs for 4 hours others 20 mins.......the unit was bought new three weeks ago from Sportbikeshop. Before I speak to them on Monday I thought I would ask the collective users....TIA

Thats funny..... aka strange.

The latest firmware for the Montana 700 does just that.
I'm wondering if its the same firmware writing monkey who has been at work on yours?

P.S garmin blames the power pins of the rugged mount- worth checking yours

Yes check the power pins ; your symptoms are the same as loss of power followed by regain power.

:rolleyes:But the thing is:
On the 700 that is: shpuld rugged mount power fail, it will drop down to a menu offering to keep going on battery.
It does not do this but shuts down completely with no restart.

Downgrading firmware to 19.10 resolves the garmin Duck-up
Until they either fix 19.20 or issue a new version and so the cycle starts again...

Let’s keep the thread about the XT2 problem, as posted by the OP, please.

I have deleted the post about solar flares.

Thanks.

My XT (a broadly similar device and I believe cradle to your XT2) displayed exactly the same problem, but only when mounted to my 1600. It was sometimes losing contact with the cradle. No such problems on my Himalayan, though that is a separate mount, from that on my 1600.

I seem to vaguely recall that Garmin might have been exchanging the dodgy XT mounts at the time.

As an update re the XT2 turning off etc, unit returned from Garmin with no issues......and a complete wiring with mounting block attached. As mentioned they believe the whole mount to be faulty so replaced.....

Well, after spending many many hours doing routes and hotels etc for our two week trip to Monaco and the Alps guess what ......same problem with the unit, closing down and failing to charge from either usb on the bike or wall connection........I'd use it a few times prior to the trip and it seemed fine..................The power lead and mount has been changed so its definitely the unit......
The aggravation caused on holiday was not to be underestimated !
I purchased the XT2 from Sportsbike shop on line, they sent a new cable etc last time and wanted to repair it again....travelled to the new shop in Glasgow 170 round trip to discuss it with Scott the manager. Great service and after speaking with Garmin they have replaced the device. No complaints with the outcome....time to try again.................
Good customer service from Scott and the coffee was good !
