XTZ660 Adventure

That'll do me

I like it... I was looking at maybe a secondhand XT when/if the GS is sold to free up some cash for my mortgage... but I really want one of these... beans on toast for tea anyone:rolleyes:

One thing that really convinces me is that I was quoted 'about' £100 for a service on the XT... About a third of the BM's and the insurance was cheaper as well, and so with similar mpg, I can't loose, other than the resale value, but I never really intended to have to sell the GS :o

I suppose the Yam is a bit ugly, but then the GS is more Picasso than DaVinci, and besides if they'd put a beak on it, well they'd just be copying wouldn't they :augie

crap in a hand basket.... seat height 895mm

I thought the XT was a little bit high as 865mm

Do I really need to be able to get my feet on the floor?

erm... all might not be what it seems.. MCN said it is the latest generation single from the MT-03, but Yam's own site has the technical figures the same as the XT, which I've read has some fuelling problem leading to some riders stalling out quite a bit and not running terribly smooth at low rpms :nono

I guess it's wait until it's in the shops time?

Me likey...:thumb2

I've been thinking what the headlamp assembly reminds me off..................

Transformers in disguise.

As others have suggested, it would look good with a beak ....

Nick, can you photoshop the low level mudgaurd away and fit in a high level mudgaurd in white (and no beak)?
I would be aiming at this arrangement if I bought one of these thumpers.:augie

I like it with the beak, but without it it just looks wrong.

The 800GS pics aren't real as it has already been agreed that it will have Chain Drive not Belt Drive.

I have heard a rumour that Rotax are stopping production of the 650 single cylinder which they still supply to BMW, though BMW then have a tinkle about with it, and this means that if BMW are to retain a thumper in the range they might well have a look at the Yamaha engine which, so I'm told, is used in many guises and is very cheap to produce.

The rumour was from a good source and I am now wondering if a new Dakar with the 650 is really what I should be looking at buying just now. Maybe the first road tests of the new Yamaha will give an indication if it's worth waiting for the new engine or rush in and get one of the remaining Rotax based lumps.

Haven't BMW bought out Husqavana??? IF so I think that will give them access to some pretty good singles :nenau

the contract to produce the f650 single rotax engine for bmw is due to expire or be renewed ? in october , but bmw is still using this engine in it,s recent new series of singles. somehow i do not think that we will see a bmw with a husky engine for a while yet .

I like the look of the Yam but it is still a single.
Anyone know if they plan to bring out a supertenere with a
TDM engine?
That would be a real contender for me - especially if they could keep the weight close to 180kgs
Also if Honda could bring out a Transalp that is not a slug
All in all a good development though.

Indeed! That TDM engine is lovely IMHO, they really should use it in other bikes in thier range :thumb2

and the KTM 690 Adventure will blow it away on all levels when it is launched soon

KTM's are good at what they do but you can't compete as a dual purpose bike ie. too thirsty for the serious road rider, lacking range on the fuel tank .... and anybody below 5'6 hasn't got a 'cat in hells' chance of riding the damn thing !

I'm clearly missing something here

While I can see the appeal of a lightweight bike and I'm only too pleased to see somebody get one over BMW. The Yam 660 is hardly a machine to get orgasmic over. nice idea but the appeal goes out the window when you're tootling up the road on a spindly little thing like that and trying not to go above it's terminal wobble speed...

I'm with your thoughts on this one Rob.

If ever Kawasaki brought back an updated version of the KLX 650 I think thats were my money would go :thumb2 .... still waiting to see the 800 GS range

Tis indeed. Got a mate with one and we swap now and again.
The TDM handles like a pig on roller skates but the engine is a corker

Having owned a Super Tenere 750 and TDM850, I too always wondered why Yamaha haven't made different bikes with that engine. Between both bikes and about 45k, the only thing that went wrong was the rect/reg on the 850.
