Y-piece and cat plug settings (again)

Been looking through the search on this, and find that it's a bit confusing.

I'm running std pipe, with a Y, with sensor, in place of the cat.

What is the definitive plug setting - is it the "steptoe mod", or leave alone (i.e. no cat plug at all on mine).

Anyone run either of these set-ups long enough to judge at service etc how the thing is running - or had some diagnostics done to check for leanness etc?

Cheers all.

I just fitted the Y piece and standard can and left alone, all seems fine

So does mine - on both settings. But there are tales of people running too lean, and burning holes in piston tops etc.

Anyone have a "key" to the cat code settings?

short cut: there is no universally agreed solution to this question :D

Yup - I know - hence the question about anyone actually having done testing - it may be that there is no one answer, that it's fine on both settings, for example.

I'm hoping that someone with the same set-up has done some dyno or whatever testing after a period of use to see what the real world results are?

Presumably someone at some time must have had a rational basis for changing settings, before it bacame a matter of following the folk lore?

Why not set your bike on a dyno?

May have no, but not one near me, and if someone else with the same set-up has done it, then should be the same anyway?

Plus, in the "know your machine" category, I'd like to know what the code sttings are supposed to be, per BMW, but can't find the info.
